When i was paying off my cc's last year I gave up :
ordering books from amazon several times a month.
buying DD clothes EVERY week.
spending a fortune on magazines each month.
Eating out regularly.
Now I am debt free I have continued to do most of these but the book buying has crept back in. Strictly cash only though:D0 -
I have.....
Stopped buying my daily Danish pastry from the Sandwich Man at work - saving myself £3.75 per week.
Didn't renew my gym membership - saving £432 per year!
OH has given up.....
Meeting his fellow engineer colleagues at their local cafe for lunch everday. He used to spend about £5 per day on lunch. Now I make him home made lunches with his favourite foods (sushi etc) to take to work instead. Saving £25 per week!Cake & pastry making extraordinare happily engaged to Gas Man in London :j

Hi everyone
I had my lightbulb moment in October 2006 but it was flickering all last summer. To be more DFW I got rid of the TV, stopped buying books and magazines to cheer myself up whenever I felt like it and now use the library.
The biggest thing for me has been to stop buying gifts for OH on a whim - like as in, `Other half would like that Dvd, jewellery, shirt etc etc'.
I realised this when I bought him a £25 DVD one week and also made him a rude fridge magnet at a cost of pennies. Guess which one he raved about the most?
Also I've stopped buying expensive `finest' food that I know I can make better and cheaper at home - plus eating homemade lunch at work.
From March 2007 the biggest thing I'll be giving up is spare time as I will be starting a new business.

I've stopped drinking at home, and this has had the effect of making me enjoy my occasional nights out so much more.
Also mostly given up buying snacks and sandwiches while at work. I take my own but do just occasionally get tempted.Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -

I've given up magazine subscriptions.
Other than that, I'm more careful about what I spend and limit how much I can spend by running a seperate "spending" account.

havent given anything up completely, just cut back on buying loads of mags, stopped having lunch out every day, only go out once a week clubbing or pubbing (although not going out this weekend - too tired!!), takeaways are limited to when we REALLY can't be bothered to cook (maybe once a month).
I've limited buying clothes and make up for myself ALOT over the past year as well.***PROUD TO BE DEALING WITH MY DEBT***
Reclaimed my bank charges - got £250 back from HSBC and £88 from First Direct0 -
Oh yes magazines, clothes buying apart from when much needed (like my jeans with a 4 inch tear underneath) make up buying is only when I have vouchers or points now. Stopped buying toiletries and using up what we have (still loads left and stopped buying in September)One day I might be more organised...........
