Just wanted to check something as I dont think that the Woman in my local post office today is giving me the correct info....
I have just bought a new (to me) car. Unfortunately there isnt any tax on it.
I have the new keeper supplement from the V5 which was given to me by the seller , I have my insurance docs and I have the mot certificate.
Now , my local PO is where I would always go to buy my tax so they DO do it ok but today they are telling me that they are unable to tax a car with just the new keeper supplement.
I have copied and pasted the following info from the direct gov site and it appears to be saying that I CAN tax my car with the docs I currently have :
Who is right here , is it me or the PO woman?

Tax with a Registration Certificate or New Keeper Supplement – in person or by post
You can tax in person at any Post Office® branch that issues tax discs.
You will need to take:
- Registration Certificate or New Keeper Supplement
- insurance certificate or cover note – must be valid when the tax disc comes into force
- valid MOT certificate - if the car or motorcycle is over three years old - must be valid when the tax disc comes into force
- the payment for vehicle tax (not needed if your vehicle is exempt from paying vehicle tax)
Who is right here , is it me or the PO woman?
The loopy one has gone :j

you can tax it with the green slip unless it's stamped as already being used.0

Just go to another post office
Why do that? Why would i travel to another PO which is miles away only to be told that the advice given in the first PO was correct! Hence why I am asking on here just to see who is correct lol.
The next closest PO which does car tax is just round the corner from our main DVLA so if I was going to travel further afield I would just go there.....but I cant be bothered to be honest as it means a bus journey. The loopy one has gone :j0 -

No , its defo not stamped.
Im going to go back up to the PO and speak to another clerk to see if the first one was mistaken. The loopy one has gone :j0 -
They were mistaken, you can tax with the green slip and they'll stamp it so you shouldn't have any problems with somebody who knows what to do.0

Can also do it online too, then the tax will be in the post.0

to the old owner seeing as the OP only just bought the car and it won't be in their name yet.0 -
I think there is a warning about this in the online tax pages.0

The whole idea of new keeper slip is to tax a car just purchased
