    Xmas Saver!
If your buying a Vauxhall (and there may be a way around this) they offer a stupidly good warranty - 100,000 miles - to the first registered keeper, when purchasing from a vauxhall retailer. You'll still get the standard 3 yr warranty if your 2nd reg keeper, but if you want a car and don't do many miles (my 1998 has less than 70k on the clock) then bargaining hard with the dealer could save you a lot in the long run.

Course, you have to want a vauxhall......(though they are good, I just prefer others, more comfortable for me)

The very fact that they can put a lot of business the way of the dealer means they'll secure preferential discounts for their clients, it's not that difficult to understand.

    From DTD FAQ:

But those discounts are provided by the manufacturer to the dealer, not the broker, seeing as any arrangements are between the dealer and the broker. Therefore the offers are available to the rest of the public. The fact that the dealer is prepared to accept a lower margin for the sales, is down to volumes. If a retail customer walks in with a quote from a broker, but doesn't want to go through them, the dealer will do his best to match or better the deal. The potential is that the customer is likely to get a better deal and the dealer won't have to pay the broker their commission; sounds like a win-win all round.
The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark
  • I think you have to contact car leasing company to get best price for buying a new car.

What discounts do think are available to on-line brokers, that are not available to the general public?

When i was looking to buy a car, i sourced the best price from across the entire internet. DTD had the best price. Honestjohn website is a good source to seek this information.

I approached a couple of local dealers with printouts seeking their best prices. They soon reduced their prices when i shared the printouts. Dealer 1 could not match their price by £500 on a £17000k car (list £21k).

Dealer 2 beat the DTD price, by £100, i further negoitaited free mats, tank of petrol and discounted parking sensors (£100). Quite a tough negoitiation. They also gave me £300 better than we buyanycar trade in value on my 9 year old wreck.

So yes a main dealer will beat a broker price if you negoitaite hard and stay very firm. All credit to the dealer.
  • Flyboy 152 is correct in his comments I do not think this has been mentioned but main dealers work to targets and units sold and can receive substantial extra discounts from manufacturers for achieving there sales targets on the volume of cars sold hence it is the dealers interest especially if they are getting close to target sales to go the extra mile for the sale .

At the end of the day if the dealer will not play ball go the broker route such as drive the deal or carfile it really is very simple !do not forget it is a buyers market out there and remember its the cost to change that matters
