UK Parking Control

Have just received a debt recovery letter claiming £150 for an unpaid parking control ticket of £90.00. I was parked on a private parking area(shopping complex) displaying my car parking ticket. Unfortunately I was late coming back by 4 minutes ! The reason I was late was because I had helped a lady who had fallen over to get up and settled. When I got to the car I had a penalty notice on it.I appealed to UKPC but got a standard letter straight back saying the fine was still upheld. The lettering on their response kept referring to not showing a "valid parking ticket" Surely this is the wrong wording for a "late return" reason they charged me with originally. After reading the various messages here I have not reponded any further to their warning letters, but now this one has arrived threatening me with debt recovery ? Can anyone advise me what to do please? Many thanks

    Yes, ignore it.

  • Agree, ignore it. Your story is interesting, but of no consequence to the Parking people. If you need support while you get these letters (I did), then look at the MSE Fora. But don't waste postage or effort on this, just ignore. They cannot do anything to your credit rating, can't send bailiffs, they can - and will do - nothing more than send letters.

Sufficient numbers of people get intimidated by them, that they do pay up. Don't be one of them.

Agree with the others - IGNORE them.

Hop over to the sub-forum for examples of their letter chain http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.php?f=163
  • It is the correct wording, once the time has expired it is no longer valid.

Your story will be of no interest to them as you'd be amazed how many people have been a good samaritan, illness or victim of crime and thus being late back, no one is simply they miss judged time.

Will let more experienced members say if you're able to just ignore them or not given you've already acknowledged it
