All the more reason to have had kids. An 18 year old single mother will get:

    Child Tax Credit: £5,662
    Income Support: £3,529
    Council Tax Benefit: £850 (say)
    Housing Benefit: £13,071 (say)
    Child Benefit: £1,762

Total Annual Income after tax: £24,874

Not a bad 'screw' is it? I would simply love to know (a) what percentage of working people believe this to be 'about right', and (b) what other [so-called] 'civilised' country would pay anything like the same amount?

How many of rioters are in that position.

I think it comes down to 20% + youth unemployment.

If you are an unemployed youngster, there is next to no chance of getting a job. You have nothing to lose. .

Well four out of 5 have managed it, so it can't be impossible.

I do think a lot of them do a rather good job of making themselves unemployable though.

Out of those 4 how many have a full time job.

I'm an employer. Give me one good reason why I should take on a rioter or a looter.

    Target practise?

I read somewhere over the last few days that there were 2,248 apprenticeships up for grabs in the London area. Sorry, can't be bothered to try to find the source, but the principle is there. People prefer their lazy ways than starting on a career path.

A rather apt choice of words :)

Also, people prefer easy generalisations than finding out the facts :)

I wouldn't consider living on Broadwater farm a better standard of living than the majority who pay taxes

What about the people who work 5 or 6 days a week on low wages and are forced to live with the workshy on Broadwater Farm.
