If it times out, please keep trying.
Do me a favour, how pathetic.'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. A single market without barriers visible or invisible giving you direct and unhindered access to the purchasing power of over 300 million of the worlds wealthiest and most prosperous people' Margaret Thatcher0 -
This petition is an example of something that sounds fair and sensible but on further examination is, in fact, very syupid."The problem with quotes on the internet is that you never know whether they are genuine or not" -

I can see why a lot of people don't like epetitions and think they are a waste of time.
But how else can the populace get:
- A place to have their voice heard
- A place where they can see how many others feel the same
- A place where it's guaranteed to be discussed if it passes a certain level
Answers on a postcard please.
Good thing for the government is would have probably been well over a million signatures by now. As you can't actually use the site, it's a poor representation.0 -

I don't have a postcard to hand but starting a riot seems to be a good way of gaining attention.0 -

Please sign this so we get 100,000 signatories then maybe we can hit the scum where it hurts .....

Current count is 85,457 so we are close to the target.
The site has crashed. I suspect that this is a popular stance.0 -
what is the point of taking away their benefits it will only cause them to riot more and steal more
What is the point of giving them benefits if they are going to riot anyway? Riot if they get benefits, riot if they don't get benefits makes no difference except to perhaps save the taxpayer some money which could be used to deploy more police to protect non-rioters?
This will never happen anyway. Shami Chakrabati and the ECHR will not be happy.0 -

Seems a bit harsh on someone who commited a driving offence or should that be "related to the current riots"
and why just London riots & not Manchester et al
Yest another poorly thought out e-petition0 -

We should have a petition to stop lefties being able to type the above type of posts aswell....where every word is questioned, instead of just being able to figure out that just because it says london, it does not exclude everywhere else and its likely the petition was created before riots spread.
Just a drop of common sense answers both your questions.0 -

What, in your opinion, makes these rioters deserving of harsher treatment than any other criminals - for example those who commit murder or rape? I've no sympathy for the rioters, but this petition is typical of the kind of knee-jerk reaction that pre-empts any detailed debate about what might be a fair and effective way to combat this kind of thing.
Absolutely - I raised this point yesterday but had my thread shut down by one of the wonderfully officious board helpersSince there's been no new rioting I'm glad to see someone else raising it!
Daft reaction that would cause more harm than good if implemented (and petitions aren't implemented, they're just discussed/debated so that the democractic process can be seen to work/so MPs can have an afternoon off real work).0
