Hi all,
I installed Norton Internet Security 2007 on my new p.c. yesterday and it was fine after. This morning, however, it's taking ages to load pages (if they manage to load at all) and there's constant "chuntering" in the background as if Norton is trying to do something and can't quite get there (if you get my meaning
).
I've tried turning Automatic Protection off for a while, but this hardly made a difference (and is pretty pointless anyway!). This is not just happening when I first turn the computer on ... it's now 2 hours since it was switched on this a.m.
Can anyone tell me what I can do/how I can change the settings?
Thank you.

Easy answer - but you won't like it.
Remove Norton and use the tools recommended in the Sticky's at the top of the page.
Not only are they free, but they don't hog your CPU so much and they are rated pretty highly among the techies here.
Best

I would agree with Troubleatmill, but Google removing Norton first though (or search this forum) as it can be a pig to completely uninstall it.
Norton and Mcaffee security suites are renowned for hogging system resourcesIt's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -
my dad has the same problem, but being as stubborn as he is, he refuses to remove it because bt internet recommend it, so it must be the best!
Of course they recommend it they charge you £3.99 or something a month to use the BT branded version of it0 -
Thanks all.
What I can't understand though is that I was running Norton 2006 on a very old computer recently with absolutely no problems. Can anyone explain this?
Must admit, I'm loathe to take it off the p.c. as I paid for it through ebay, but reaching the stage where I'll do anything to have the p.c. back the way it was.Wins since 2009 = £17,600MANY THANKS TO ALL OPS0 -
Decided to try re-installing it ... (there were a few problems installing live updates the first time round). I know this is risky as you can lose your year's subscription, but anything was worth a try.
So far, so good. Running smoothly, quickly and no problems (and kept the subscription).Wins since 2009 = £17,600MANY THANKS TO ALL OPS0 -

You won't lose a years (or however much time you have left) subs.
You register it, which gives you a norton account, when you reinstall it if it asks for your key just enter it.
I made this version NIS2007 my last usage of their Internet Secuirty and AV products due to the high usage of system resources.
I removed it and use ZASS 2007.
Still have 409 days left on my Norton Subs also.
Your subs are for the live update service, not the software.
For example, if you had NIS2006 and still had 100 days left on subs, then Installed NIS2007, you just email tech support explaining this and they will add your days left to your new subs.
So 466 days from the first day of installing NIS2007.0 -

i guess it doesn't make all computers slow, but if your computer slows down, then it tends to be because of norton. With my dads computer managed to speed it up by removing the free norton spyware that comes with the yahoo broswer. Norton seemed to conflict with itself!0 -
Strange how now that I've reinstalled it, it's perfectly OK ... just hope it continues!Wins since 2009 = £17,600MANY THANKS TO ALL OPS0

My advice would be to ditch Norton and use something like Kaspersky internet security, because Norton is so intrusive on a pc it makes them run like treacle. Try Kaspersky trial out and see how much better it is0

I'll consider this if I have any more problems ... thanks. In the meantime, with everything running quickly and smoothly, I'll stick with Norton. If it ain't broken, why bother fixing it.Wins since 2009 = £17,600MANY THANKS TO ALL OPS0
