Go on, post the pics, humour us.

As far as I know, but I might well be wrong, your contract is with the supplier and not the courier. It's up to the supplier to chase the courier for any damages.
With regards to getting your money back, or some new sausages, I'm not sure what is the best way to tackle that. Sorry. I don't think rejecting under the distance selling regulations would be the best option as you'd have to pay for the return post. Perhaps saying they're not fit for purpose may be the way to go, tell them you planned on having hot dogs!
Ok I'm joking with the last part, but I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will give you better info on how to act.
This is lifted from the food standards website.
How should food be packaged if it's sent through the post?
You should send food to consumers in packaging that is strong enough to remain intact. Foods that need refrigerating (such as fish, meat products, cooked foods, many dairy products and ready-prepared salads) must be kept cool while they are being transported. Sometimes they will need to be packed in an insulated box with a coolant gel, or in a cool bag. Any packaging should be capable of protecting the food while it is in transit. There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.0 -

Since the items have arrived damaged you can still returns under DSRs without incurring additional expense.
I'm a little peckish now though having seen that pie
Op...
have you emailed the retailed yet? Send them an email explaining what has happened and see how they respond? Its only then anybody here can advise you of how to proceed.0 -

OP is saying they've contacted the retailer, who have told her to claim from the courier, therefore washing their hands of the situation... or trying to.There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. they have said they will 'try' to claim from the courier but likely to be unsuccessful!

I've got to go out, but here's a link to a thread I've found on another site which should give you some of the info needed. HTH.
