Asus Eee no longer recognizes taps on touchpad

I used to be able to just tap the Synaptics V7.2 touchpad on my Asus Eee but the facility suddenly stopped working a few weeks ago; now I have to left-click on the bar. In 'mouse properties' on the Control Panel (XP Home) there is no option to restore this function. All the other finger gestures are working normally.

Not sure if this will help you but read post 7 on this web page.

I presume you have tried uninstalling the driver for it and reinstalling it again.
have you tried doing a restore to when you knew it was working ?
I have a Asus EE Notebook as well.Really great battery time and looks good but even after putting more Ram in its so slow compared to my Laptop.0 -
Thank you so much, in fact I only had to go as far as post #2! I didn't realise this adjustment would be in the system tray; I can't believe this was so simple to reset after putting up with it for weeks. Not sure if this will help you but read post 7 on this web page.
I hope I can help you, now; are you aware of the advice in this thread?

I don't see how the fact that it is a netbook should make much difference; surely it's the OS, processor and RAM that is relevant to speed.0 -
Thanks Kernel Sanders. I looked for your problem just incase i have the same problem with mine.Good you got it sorted.
Mine is a Asus Eee 1005 HA. I have removed all the rubbish on it.Uninstalled a lot of Asus stuff from it but its still slow
.Hate how the hard drive is split into 2 ,i think its 70gb and 80gb seperated on 1 hard drive. i would have rather had it 140gb for the drive i use and 10gb being the back up drive.
But i got it for its size and battery life and when i go travelling as when i am the Airport i seemed to be the only person with a huge Laptop, most people have Notebooks now.0 -

Compared to a proper computer, Atom based computers generally are slow no matter what you do
You could post a HJT log if you wanted someone to look at it.
You should be able to merge the partitions in XP. Easier if Drive D is empty, as you can just delete the partition then extend Drive C:

Thanks RussJK. So as long as D drive is empty i can make C drive bigger and my C drive still keeps my programs on it ?
Is it a good idea to do this ? I do back up the Asus on a external hard drive.
Thanks again
And if i make the D drive 10gb and i have backed up on what was on it before can i just then copy that back on the new 10gb drive ? as its only 6gb on it anyway at the moment.0 -
Personally I think it's better to leave it as is, as it makes it much easier to have two partitions if you ever reinstall.
With one large system partition, it'll need to be wiped each time you do a full reinstall. Sure, you can always use an external drive, but having the partition gives you more options.0 -
Ok i leave it as it is. I dont use it much but just thought by having a bigger C drive it might run faster.
Thanks again0 -
First partition will be on the 'fastest' part of the hard drive in any case. You could make a minimal difference to the speed with an 'optimising' program like MyDefrag, but it's a huge input of time compared to a small output of performace.
Saying that, I've worked on two older computers where using MyDefrag actually did make a big difference - but it was obvious they needed it just based on the heavy hard drive activity at boot time.
But like I said, you are welcome to post a Hijackthis log if you'd like.0 -
I do Defrag and clean it up and hardly have anything on it apart from the programs like Defra and Clean up so i have not used much hard disk space.
I am sure it does not have a Virus, think its what you said, its never going to be as fast as a Laptop.
Thanks again Russ0 -

Mine is 1001PX. C Drive is 80GB but D is only 62.1GB (I presume the netbook is using the other 17.9GB when automatically backing up).
How much battery life are you getting? Although only bought in the Autumn, mine never seems to last the 4 hours indicated. I run it without the battery in whenever feasible, but never store the battery empty.0
