Trapped in train ticket barriers

I wouldn't be comfortable suing the rail company because there wasn't really any substantial injury to me...I just had a massive bruise and a sore elbow. You can't sue for that, surely!
But can I just say, the barriers very definitely DO close with substantial force!!! They absolutely slammed into me and completely knocked the breath out of me, bashing my elbow to such an extent that I cried out with pain...and I'm ashamed to say treated the nice station staff to the F word...!
How embarrassing is that??0 -
Emabrrasing enough to sue the F... out them. They injured you, is it ok just to let it go and let someone who is even more frail than you suffer worse consequences?0

I felt that the barriers were crushing me and I couldn't move a fraction of an inch, so there was certainly no sign of them releasing or any alarm going off. The staff seemed to panic too, so I wouldn't have thought they'd expect the barriers to release without being forced open with their hands.0 -
That's the worry I have. Anyone older or frailer would've really been hurt.

Soory...I thought the forst one hadn't posted there.0

What happens on rainy days when people are carrying golf umbrellas?
Am just curious.0 -
The OP won't know until they contact an claims company. For a few pence it's certainly something I would recommend.
PS noticed you didn't reply to the wilful obstruction post.0 -
I am a healthy 30 year old, I use the underground daily and happened to me yesterday, using a normal ticket in the machine, I pulled the ticket out of the machine and then as I am half way through the gate it slammed on me!
I can understand how someone smaller would get hurt by the impact, i have a small bruise where it smashed my keys into my leg, I am lucky that I am strong enough to force the gates open... if I hadn't been in a rush to get to work I would have complained there and then to the head honcho!
I think they really need to fix them so if something is between the barriers it doesn't close, or they are risking a serious lawsuit.0 -

Well with the amount of people that read MSE daily I'm sure that one or two of them now have this idea on how to make a quick buck or two.
The problem I foresee is that due to the costing involved in fixing this barrier problem the TOC would be more reactive than proactive and not fix it until sued on a few occasions.Whoa! This image violates our terms of use and has been removed from view0 -
