Luggage in pockets & other queries - Ryanair

Flying Ryanair next week, no hold bags just one carry-on case per each of us. I'm going to tip my handbag contents into my carry-on bag (apart from liquid cosmetics etc. which will go in a clear bag) but was wondering about my phone and purse. Is it allowed to go through security with these in my pockets? Do you have to take off jackets etc. if they have pockets and put them through the conveyor belt scanner?
Also if the phone has to go through the scanner, will that cause any damage? I'm presuming not as everyone must have to do this, but it would be nice to be reassured!
Finally, re. the liquid toiletries, once these have been checked through, if I put the plastic bag back in my carry-on case and it makes it bulkier than the permitted 20cm will that be okay, or do the baggage size restrictions have to include the contents of the clear bag?

Whatever is in your jacket pockets is fine, but your jacket (and the contents) and your carry on bag, will go through the scanner. Your phone will be fine.
If the bag size is checked/queried, this will be when you are queued up, just before you board the plane, when the gate staff will come down the line looking for oversize bags. At this point you must only have one bag, so your handbag should be in your carry on bag, and the bag must fit into the cage.
With Ryanair the thing to remember is "Read the rules and follow the rules, and NEVER assume anything".0 -
2 netbooks, sandwiches, wife's handbag and book, keys, phones, sweets, dvd's,plus a few odds and ends all in my poachers waistcoat that cost £4 new........of course you have to put it through the scanner, but they have seen all this before.Political?....I dont do Political....well,not much!0

Many times i have seen more than one bag being taken on a ryanair flight, ladies handbags are often let on.....BUT.....and that is a big BUT.......sods law applies to YOU,yes,YOU..........why did they pick on YOU?..........you have been warned.I had a bag of duty free and my carry on bag and they let me through.Political?....I dont do Political....well,not much!0 -

A couple of points. They have agreements with the duty free shops at some airports that people can do this, but there will be signs at those airports.
But the main point is that just because you were let through, that doesn't mean that anybody else will be. If you fancy playing Ryanair Russian Roulette, great, but others may be more risk averse.0 -

It would be helpful if we knew which airports allow this. I know there was some dispute between Ryanair and the Spanish airport autorities quite recently about this but have no idea what the outcome was.0 -
So, sorry to harp on but just to clarify - does the see-through bag (that you have to carry separately with your liquid toiletries in) have to fit in your carry-on bag without making it bulge over the 20cms? Even though the contents are all mini travel size, added together they will probably take up a fair bit of luggage space.
Also I was wondering whether a newspaper could be carried in the hand, or would this have to go in the bag too, or be squashed into a pocket?
Thanks for all the replies, it seems to be a minefield!
I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe

Yes, the clear see through bag will have to fit into your carry on bag. I've carried on a book/magazine before so I assume they'd be fine with a newspaper. The frontier is never somewhere else. And no stockades can keep the midnight out.0
