Booze in checked luggage

Does anyone know if it’s ok to take a box of wine on our checked luggage from the UK to Spain?
Thanks
P.S. We know how cheap wine is in Spain but we are going to a villa with family which has been paid for, all we need are flights and spending money (easy said than done).
Most of the group (not all) have been paying into a “drinks kitty” for the last couple of months to be part of that now would mean stumping up €200.00 before we even leave the country so we thought “hey we’ve already for a box of plonk in the cupboard why not take that?” ;)
Thanks Guys

You're not permitted to take containers of more than 100ml of liquid in hand luggage, so unless it's a very small box, or it's powdered vino, no.
  • Fine in your hold luggage.

I recently stayed in a Paris hotel where there was a bottle of champagne waiting in the room upon arrival and the next day a gift box of 2 bottles of wine was delivered. All 3 came back with me in my hold luggage, no problem.
    Thank you all who post.
  • Thanks for the reassurance I have brought duty free home from Spain in the past but that was ages ago and you don't often hear of people wanting to take wine on holiday.

It might sound a bit cheap but if it save us money i'm not bothered.:)
    Thanks again

Perhaps do a 'lets pretend to be baggage handlers' test before to see how resistant the wine box is to being thrown about.

Also dont those wine boxes contain a foil bag? The unpressurised hold may cause the bag to burst - hope you drink white wine!

Blast!!!! i think my cunning plan may be dashed. I didn't think of the pressure (or lack of) in the hold.
wine soaked clothes don't sound good and we might be skint, but i don't fancy wringing my smalls out into a wine glass.

Why not buy wine on arrival in Spain, either at the airport or in a supermarket? I really couldn't be faffed with the weight and uncertainty of it arriving in one piece!
