We've got a mixer tap on the sink, and when our shower was broken I got the water to the right temperature by turning both taps on and stuck my head under that.Even if you've only got one in the kitchen use that. Sorted.0

The shower won't work either because in addition there is insufficient "head" between the bottom of the cold water tank and the shower head when you lift it up in the air. So no pressure as well as poor flow rate.
Did you ask the landlords permission to change the taps? You should have done.
If the landlord won't provide a shower then move to a place which has one or do as suggested above.
