Help with no shower, just bath!

In my boyfriends flat (that he doesnt own so we dont want to put too much money in to it) he only has a bath, no shower.
When I stay at his, which is alot, I cant wash my hair because there is no shower and it is driving me mad!!!!
Whats the cheapest way to get a proper shower installed? We dont want one you stick on the taps, but a properly installed one with pressure and everything.
We bought a mixer tap with a shower attached, and my boyfriend and a friend tried installing it but now we have no shower, and barely any pressure through the taps.
He has a boiler in the airing cupboard (in the same bathroom), but otherwise I dont know any techie details, sorry.
Any help would be appreciated!

You could just buy a plastic jug and use that to rinse your hair.

no matter which way your doing it the cheapest itll prbably be done for is about £300

    either stick with bath

    or

stick with bath mixer tap (i just put one of these in (similar problem to you) no problem and high pressure, high pressure from source though)

p.s. u checked the tap isnt leaking? you shouldnt lose pressure through your taps by changing them
  • I'd recommend getting a plumber in to sort out your taps - the landlord will be unimpressed at your DIY especially if you've made it worse, are you sure there's no leaks?

An electrician can plumb in an electric shower - but again these are major alterations and you are best getting the approval of the landlord and a professional in. Some landlords would offer to fit a shower in for you, to extend your rental period and it is reasonable to expect a shower in a rented property so it is a case of sooner rather than later.

I used to own one of these (with two tap attachments as we didn't have a mixer) when I lived with only a bath. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Tap-Shower-Hose-Kit-90cm/dp/B002EP8HM2/ref=pd_sim_sbs_kh_1

For those wondering why you can't wash your hair in a bath, without fresh water to rinse, my hair goes lank and horrid. A jug of fresh water from the tap was an absolute pain as just the last "rinse" with fresh water wasn't enough - I needed 5 or 6 jugs of fresh water, which was a bother.

I suspect that you mean you have an immersion heater in the airing cupboard, not a boiler?
If this is the source of your hot water supply, a mixer shower alone will not work, because you do not have any head of water (to give pressure) from the hot water tank-it's lower than the shower head.
Since you really don't know what you are doing, this is a job for a plumber-via your landlord.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • we spoke to the landlord and asked them about a shower being installed and they wont pay for any of it, even after we said we wont tile the walls and a shower will damage them which will cost them a fortune when we leave! the landlord will only pay for old people with mobility problems to get a shower. its a housing association by the way.
ive washed my hair once or twice in the bath before but i have to lean my head over the edge for about 20mins whilst my boyfriend pours water over my head which absolutely kills my back and neck, and it doesnt wash my hair properly (its very thick).
Im not too sure if its a boiler or immersian heater, its a big tank in the cupboard that heats up water- thats all i know! sorry!

It just seems lazy to me, people have washed there hair for 100's of years and never complained as for your boyfriend having to help this seems just as stupid and lazy as well !

We have a separate hand held shower on the bath but i seem to pick the wrong time of day to wash my hair and end up with no hot water. Hubby just brings a large jug of hot water up from the kettle and I wash my hair perfectly fine in the bath like this. can't see the problem, although as Andrew b says not sure why you can't just use a push on shower attachment for hair washing.
