Dear missprice
Further to your recent contact I have tried to contact you via phone to discuss your concerns. Unfortunately you were not available so I am emailing you to address the concerns you raised.
I understand that we produced and amended gas bill on 2 August 2011 which recalculated all charges back to 19 September 2006 when you transferred to us. The purpose of the amendment was to correct the billing method we had used in previous bills and update the meter details. Having checked some of your previous bills I can see that we were incorrectly calculating your gas charges as though you had an imperial meter instead of a metric meter and by doing so this caused you to be overcharged for your gas usage. Please accept my apologies for this.
As a result of the amended gas bill of 2 August 2011 this has left a credit of £140.41 on your account. In addition to the amended bill I understand that you have raised concerns with the discounts you have received for paying by monthly Direct Debit. The amended bill of 2 August 2011 shows your discounts for the period December 2007 to December 2010, however your discount for the period of December 06 to December 07 is showing on your electricity statement dated 2 April 2008 and this totalled £75.00. I can advise that when you initially joined npower your Dual Fuel discount was only £60.00 per annum, however following our price changes on 30 April 2007 this was increased to £100.00, therefore as your discount covered two different prices this was pro rated to £75.00.
I would like to take this opportunity to apologise for any confusion caused as a result of the billing of your account and that you needed to contact us to clarify matters. I can assure you that we aim to provide the highest level of service at all times and I am sorry if this has not been demonstrated to you on this occasion.
As we have now had the opportunity to discuss this matter I would be grateful if you could contact me to confirm if you are happy this matter has been resolved or to discuss any further concerns you may have. My office hours are 09:00 to 17:00 Monday to Friday and 09:00 to 16:30 Friday.
Kind regards
many many thanks to all replies

Don’t forget the VAT rates changed over the period they are claiming you owe so discounts for this also need to be made if not already done. I was in the same position with Eon last year when I moved they said I owe 5 years gas bill as they never took any reading (relied on me providing) ended up they charged me all the usage at the present rate rather than taking into account rates over the years owed.
I am surprised you have not had a letter from their recovery company yet.0 -

Hi missprice - I hope you are still following your thread as n'powers offer of a £140 credit to adjust Metric v Imperial overchargeing on your gas account, is a joke
Briefly, on the figures you have given on the new Metric billing, your gas consumption works out to appx. 16,325 Kwh a year, but because n'power issued bills on the basis of you having an Imperial meter they will have charged you for appx. 45,915 Kwh
For the moment forget the new gas bill and concentrate on the gas bills they issued previously - If you don't have them all, ask n'power to supply them. They must do so if asked and if they don't contact Consumer Focus immediately
On each old bill divide it's total by 31.5, then multilply the answer by 11.2.
The difference between this figure and the total printed on the bill is close to the amount you have been overcharged.
On just the 1st three billings on the new bill, covering 19/9/06 - 30/9/07,
(377 days), the overcharge is roughly £526.00.
DO NOT trust the figures given to you by n'power, work it out for yourself0 -
hiya dogshome
i have asked for
the last 5 years of bills
historical data for
calorific value
conversion rate
meter readings and dates of
tariff details and dates of change
he did say that the tariff charge may not have been in use in 2006
so if anyone knows that to be true let me know ta
interestingly
you came up with the same figures as my gas engineer fella well pretty darn close anyway
they did finally call me back and i am waiting for the info to arrive and the rep calling me back when he is back off his hols next week
i have escalated this to a complaint rather than a query
i will (with help :rotfl:) do my own calcs with all the info avaialble when it arrives and see what i come up with and will post on here to see if i am right
many many thanks to you well informed people63 mortgage payments to go.

Hi again missprice - Well done, you have a lot of work to do but at least you will get £££'s back - but if your energy flags keep in mind that these are the £££'s that n'power illegally took off you the first place.
When examining those old bills, ignore the line that charges xxx kwh at the higher price as however the sums were done, n'power would have charged a fixed amount of these Kwh annually
( n'power are alone in allocating more of these in Winter than in Summer, but that's another issue )
Concentrate on the balance of lower price units charged and without having to do the whole equation, you can get a very close figure of the overcharge
Divide the Kwh charged by 281, then multiply the answer by 100, then times this by the price per Kw to get what you should have paid
Your figures for the bill should look like this:
Cost of High Price Kwh as printed on the bill £xxxxx
Your new figure for cost of balance units £xxxxx
SubTotal £xxxxx
Less any discounts (Online, D/D ?) £xxxxx
Sub total £xxxxxx
+ VAT @ 5% £xxxxxx
BILL TOTAL £xxxxxx0 -
cheers dogshome
will be a week or two before i get the info
but when i do i shall
first try to match (actual) meter readings with similar dates
happy to pay for what i used (actually have already paid:rotfl:)
this could take a while but hey they been overcharging me for 5 years so whats the rush now
may as well get it right63 mortgage payments to go.
