Havent been here for a while and lots of changes.

2 cats moved out, living with my daughter and her b/f now so down to 4 cats and Zara the dog.

Not working any longer, finished the last job on Friday the 5th, quite relieved actually as to be honest was much worse off working (as ridiculous as it sounds I actually really was worse off) so looking for something else now, much closer to home without having to travel nearly 2 hours each way (bad connection to my last job) and paying a fortune for travel.

Anyway - I have a massive problem as with my daughter moving out 2 weeks ago, there is nobody at home just me and Zara's separation anxiety reached new heights.

Before, if I left home before my daughter - Zara was fine and did nto bark. Now, she absolutely barks the place down, barks/howls etc etc for as long as I am out.

For the last 2 weeks I had someone picking her up from me at 7.30 and dropping her off around 12-1 but the person can not do such early starts any longer (not for the money I was paying anyway).

And she needs to be picked up before I go to work - when I find a new job :(

So what I am really looking for is someone local who would like to have a dog but can not commit to full time permanent dog at home and perhaps could take Zara in to their house while I am at work?

Has anyone tried that?

I have put an add on Gumtree, anywhere else anyone can reccomend?

I am really at my witts ends, do not want to have to rehome a dog that I have had for 5 years, can not afford professional dog day care and even if I could - they take dogs in from 9 or 10 am and I really need someone to take her in before I live for work.

Any ideas?

I am in East London, Wanstead Flats/Wanstead park area, off Aldersbrook Rd.....

Oh dear... this isnt good! Cannot believe that dog day care in your area starts so late - I am starting up a dog daycare business in a few weeks with a friend of mine and we are opening at 7!!

    Wish you lived closer...!!

Caroline, at the moment I have signed the paperwork to rehome Zara - it is THAT bad.

I can not afford to pay £30 per day, I need to find someone who will help me out here for less or will need to rehome Zara - or loose the flat.

Have you thought about getting the word out in the "dog" world - for example, contacting local dog trainers and dog clubs - who will probably know about local dog services, and may help you get a message round or even know someone.

You could also perhaps join/post on some of the dog forums - there are some quite active ones out there, who again could have the local knowledge of dog services that you really need.

I'm sure you'd like to keep Zara if you can, and, as you are still looking for a job I hope that you can resolve your problem without having to rehome her.

I have very fond memories of Wanstead and the Wanstead Flats area - but unfortunately I don't know anyone in that immediate area any more.

you could also try searching for dog walkers who could take her out early and then bring her back after an hour - perhaps returning to an empty house (as opposed to being left) might not be so bad for her?

This is what I was doing for the past 2 months - she was being picked up at 7.30 am and dropped off around midday, long after I was gone - she was fine.

The dog walkers I used so far will not do 7.30 start any more though as it breaks up their day too much for too little money and I can understand that.

I need someone who will take her in to their house for whole day or half a day from 7.30 am.

Not working now but obviously looking to go back to work and need to have a plan in place for when that happens.
Dog walkers are out of question, can no longer afford professional services like that - need someone as described above although I know there is a very small chance to find such a person locally - would be easier with a small toy type dog but not with a 35 kg GS :(

Zara does NOT follow me around indoors, she does NOT sleep with me, she is fine with doors being shut between her and me inside the flat - she sleeps most time anyway - as long as I am somewhere in the flat.

As soon as I step out of the front door - hell (and I mean hell) breaks loose.

Also, 1 hour dog walker 7.30-8.30 is not going to solve the problem as can not let her stay home alone with no toilet break from 8.30 am till I come back home from work.

So need at least half a day, her being picked up at 7.30 and taken for a walk around midday before being brought back home.

Failing that - I need a job where I can take her with me... yeah rite like this is going to happen.... :(
  • Do you have any friendly neighbours where perhaps you could drop her off for an half hour or so as you go to work, then they can drop her back at yours after you have left? This would have to be tested I guess first to see how she reacts)

Then you can have your usual dog walker to take her out midday or whatever time suits best.

    Good luck

I do nto have anyone who could do this on a permanent basis.

It would work as tested this few times, last time today - took her to my neighbour, left her there, went out, neighbour brought her back to my flat 10 min later, stayed with her for 5 min adn she was fine, did nto bark.

But this neighbour has own dog and zara and her dog absolutely hate one another - today she locked her dog in the bathroom for those few min but she can not do this for me on a permannet, reliable basis. That is why I put an ad on Gumtree as I really do nto have anyone that I know could help and is local to me.

Just went down to let one of the cats out, was gone for less than 2 min but as soon I shut the door - the madness with barking/howling started.

    Imagine being MY neighbour?
