British army south African passport refused visa please help

Hi all

I was wondering if you could help us. My partner is in the uk army but has an sa passport and we booked a holiday to Spain. We applied for a spainish visa for him but he got refused so we appealed and it was rejected. They give you no proper reason why they refuse it so that doesn't really help. It seems crazy that he fights for the uk and has an imdefinate to stay in the uk in his passport but can't travel in Europe like the rest of is. Has anyone else had the same problem as we really need some help otherwise we will lose the money we paid for our holiday

Many thanks in advance

Unfortunatly, as far as Spain is concerned, his occupation is irrelevant.

Could he try and wangle a NATO travel order?

Problem with that is they are intended for work related travel. The family and swim suit might be a give away and to get denied entry at the border could be somewhat inconvenient.

Senior (and not so Senior) Officers visiting the USA for holidays take them all the time, saves so much time at the border.

I've also used them for leave, when I was a serving J/T in the RAF.My passport was lost when I returned from the Falklands & I was issued one for travel home from RAFG.

  • Is there any chance he can have dual (sp?) nationality? My sister lives in SA and has both SA and UK passports. This makes things much easier.
  • Hi, i know this thread is old but i have a similar problem and wondered how you sorted it out?! My boyfriend is SA and in his passport holds a stamp with says his exempt to immigration law whilst in the army. We have booked a holiday to spain in june and when filling out an application for getting a shengan visa it asks for a residents permit number, which he hasnt got because of this stamp. Does this mean we will be refused? And what can we do to stop this?!

    Thanks

    Hi,

We finally got a visa after about 3 applications and lots of begging and pleading with the office in London. I am not sure what the residents permit number is about as we didn't have this on the application but I would advise that your boyfriend asks the officers in the right department at work if they can help as they can proved a lot of the docs that you will need like letters to prove that he works there. One of the mistakes we made was the letter did not contain his salary info in it so insure that this is in it and also that all bank statements are stamped with a special stamp from the bank otherwise you will be refused. Make sure you book your appointment at the visa office now as appointments are usually weeks away and it take time for them to process it.

Please let me know if there is anything else I can help with and good luck (I feel your pain with this visa process as they make it very difficult)
