Co-operative bank student account 2011/2012: We want your feedback

It says on the application that you must be a full time student going to uni......what if you are going part time to do a degree due to disability I can't do full-time (I have all the paperwork and offers etc to back this up)
Rang the student team (after being given the number from ringing the quoted 08457 number next to the online app) at Co-op to ask this question - 3 times - and was cut off every time. Are they only part-time too, cos I rang at 4.10pm?!
Would really like to know the answer to this, as HSBC offer a student acc to disabled students that are doing p/t degrees on production of a valid DSA assessment (which I have). Thanks to anyone that can help!

This is because they request to see original copies of student finance documents and uni acceptance letters, which will not be returned. I need both these documents to enrol in September and they are important things to keep filed.
They do offer the option to go to your nearest branch and show documents in person, however mine is about an hour away so wont be opening this account.
Our experience at Lloyds was completely the opposite. The staff were helpful, effecient and friendly and the account was opened within 10 minutes.0 -
Can anyone who has this account open help me? I applied online, they requested my ID, student status proof by letter which I haven't gotten round to dealing with yet. Then I received my chequebook and a letter asking me to deposit the £300 saying my account was open. Do they still need the proof? Did you only get the chequebook once you'd provided the ID? I bank with smile so that's probably why they don't actually need to see a passport or whatever but I was expecting to need the student status proof.... Can I safely deposit the £300? I don't want it lost in the ether....Sealed Pot Challenge #239

Can't actually answer your question - but have one for you
How long did it actually take to receive the letter etc? My son applied on line about a week ago - & has heard nothing at all - no confirmation email etc. We did ring to ask if the application had gone thru - & it had. He's off to uni next weekend - so not sure what to do.
Cheers.0 -

If you've got his enrolment number you can check his application on the application tracker via the same site you applied. That gives you and sort code and account number fairly quickly. The account doesn't spring to life until £300 goes in.
We didn't get a cheque book until we deposited more that £300 in the account. We are still waiting for the debit cards. One of ours has a week to go!!
I transferred the funds from my Smile account so the transfer was instant.0 -

I got my letter asking me to send in the ID about a week after I applied online. Then about a week later, I received my chequebook and this letter asking me to deposit £300 to activate OD/debit card. I've done that and I can see it sitting there in my online account so it's not lost. Hopefully mine will activate without proof of student status. Good luck getting it all sorted.Sealed Pot Challenge #239

If you have a cheque book theyve given you an account number and the account must be active, You shouldnt have any issues depositing money and getting it back. just keep any deposit slips just incase.0 -
A bit of feedback regarding the co-op account, some people said theyve had to wait a while before hearing anything:
I applied at 06:34 this morning
Accepted at 09:39 this morning
I did it all via the net, and have bad credit I think, so im rather supprised I was accepted.
Still, cant complain- very happy actually.0 -

Thanks for reply.
I've had a look at the site - but can't find where to track application:o. Could you point me in the right direction?

My son applied for this account a few weeks ago. They asked for orginial documents so he rang them and they took his UCAS reference and everything so said they only needed proof of address. He sent of his bank statement and now they have written back saying that is not enough.
I am going to ring them today.0
