Im a single mum on benifits and my electricity bill has gone up from £17 to £24 a week which is a bit on the high side as I only live in a 2 bed flat. I was told about winter fuel allowance for people on benifit and the over 60's but the only thing I find on this on the net is a newpaper artical about a single mum in england who gets help from the winter fuel allowance. I'm just wondering is this for England only or is it the whole of the UK and if it is how do I go about getting it sorted ? thanx

Winter Fuel is only for the over 60's - its administered by the Pension service - https://www.thepensionservice.gov.ukI no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0

And I know British Gas do a winter payment scheme for the disabled and over 60's as I got £60 towards the payments. Not sure about people on benifits tho?!
I would give who ever your supplier is a call as mine increased a bit and when I told them I was disabled and thought the increase was big they looked into it and reduced it by 5 pounds.0

just to say that british gas are not accepting any more applications for the allowance this year - they told me to get back to them next year.0
