Hello All,
I have an IPAQ model RX1955 which doesn't have bluetooth but instead has inbuilt Wi-Fi - my question is... what is the best/cheapest way of getting this unit to work as a GPS device... or would it just be cheaper to buy TomTom or something similar?
Thanks in advance!

Most iPAQ solutions use Bluetooth, although you can get hold of "wired" GPS add-ons. Even then you'll need to cough up about £100 for the maps.
I've used both the iPAQ add-on and TomTom solution and can say that the latter is BY FAR the best. By the time you've bought a car kit for your iPAQ, it's no cheaper, also it's a little unreliable. TomTom works straight out the box, flawlessly. Treat yourself!Says James, in my opinion, there's nothing in this world

I brought a Wired GPS kit for my HP4150 for £35 off ebay a few years ago and downloaded TOM TOM free off pirate spy.
Its fantastic!0 -

Doing it the ipaq way is a far better option, it may not be the cheaper option however its more ungradeable, Ive upgraded my tom tom every year which i couldnt have done on a standalone system.
The upgrades to new versions are free to if you know where to look :rotfl: :rotfl:0 -

[cough] Far be it from me to moralise, but "stole" is more accurate. :rolleyes:Says James, in my opinion, there's nothing in this world

For the law-abiding amongst us, I should point out that the maps are exactly the same price (TomTom vs. iPAQ) if you're not stealing them....

I prefer to put it as moneysaving!
But yes we should all comply with the law and not download copies online!0 -

Dear me, we could discuss this for a long time....
You can steal loads of things which don't physically exist. If I hack into your account and transfer money to me, isn't that stealing?
By downloading something that you would otherwise buy, you're depriving someone of income.
There's an argument which says that if you wouldn't otherwise buy it, then you're not depriving anyone, but this isn't the case. The OP is considering buying a TomTom, so suggesting he downloads it instead is to encourage theft.Says James, in my opinion, there's nothing in this world
