pinkypoopydoo , I cant imagine for a second they would stop you for having a low income first few months ,if they do they should forget the whole scheme because its damn hard making your own way in business, I would hope they are simply making sure you are "Trading" as a fair few I can see just taking the money and sitting back for 26 weeks passing the days by. ( Controversial but true)

You will be fine your trying your best.

This Year , don't waste time waiting for these magical mentors they offer, mine is so good I don't even know I have one ........... actually do I have one ?????

Anyone can go it alone and I know NEA offers a few quid each week but you could be losing valuable clients/business and we need to ask ourselves would Richard Branson wait for someone to give the go ahead, most certainly not.

    hello everybody!
I am about to start my own business as well
I am a bit confused. You know, my claim for JSA began just two months ago. When I signed my Jobseeker's agreement I had an other adviser. Now my personal adviser to which I go for the sign in is another person. The question is: whom do I have to ask for an appointment with a business adviser?
Furthermore, where are the business advisers? Are they also in the jobcenter or will I be referred to another department?

I've been Money Tipped! Debt-free and Proud!
Hi everyone, me again! I have been reading along, just not posting.
I have decided to get a part-time job, and start the business up alongside it.
It's the easiest way for me to do it, as i dont have any savings to fall back on. That way, i dont have to worry too much about getting enough customers straight away, or about HB and TCs.

My aim is to eventually go full time with my business, but by working part time as ann employee i feel like it takes some of the pressure off.

I was initially told to do that when I was on income support, but as I was still studying at the time, it was a non-starter. If you have the time and the energy to do both, then I guess, it's the best of both worlds. Plus it gets you out of the dependency on other people doing things to help (ie, non-existent business mentors!).

if you are wanting referred to the New Enterprise Allowance scheme, you need to say to them when you next sign on, and the advisor you see *should* put the ball in motion (I say should, because it seems not all advisers are as helpful as others!). Business mentors tend to work for different organisations, so I don;t think many are based within jobcentres - in Scotland, for example, the are part of the Business Gateway, so I had to travel to my nearest BG office, which was about 50 miles away. Other areas seem to do things differently, so it's entirely down to your area, I think.

That sounds like a good idea. So you can build it up gradually and (from what I remember) your business idea can grow from word of mouth as it were. Good luck! :)

Sorry, but what sort of answer is this?
Do you really think that a person who get JSA and dedices to start his/her business could go alone already from the top without any help?

Do not forget that this thread here is about NEA.
I would appreciate if if somebody could provide me with constructive answers.
    Thanks

Yes I do believe some people on JSA could go it alone and some on here already have.

I was trying to find out what the main source of help you require actually is so that I could help you further, is it the mentor, start up loan available or the been able to work and stay on benefits for 6 months?

s450 ,I suggest you change the tone if you want advice, people on here are very helpful but you seem quite rude, the question andyscott asked was no reason to snap.

In "answer " to your question it is best to talk to your advisor, most of us only have one whom we signed on with so talk to them as to whether you qualify at this early stage of JSA as I believe there ay be a minimum time before you can go onto NEA.

If you have read earlier posts you may gather a lot of us are having issues with this wonderful scheme, myself ,I have not seen my mentor this year and only once since my induction so I certainly wont be banging the drum for NEA.

You do get a little financial help and a possibility of a loan of up to £1000 but few seem to take this option and most just try to go at it by themselves.

You must have an idea that is feasible and then your job centre advisor can put you through to your local scheme if they feel it may work .

BUT only you can make this happen long term, even if you do get a mentor to hold your hand ,you have to have self motivation beyond anything you have done before and learn to take knocks on a daily basis and if you can do that ...... welcome to self employment.

WantToBeSE , that sounds like a plan, there is no race in getting going ,its much better you do things at a good pace and make it work financially because we all need money to live on, at least your thinking and not just quitting, good luck you deserve it .
