She can claim for the flights on her insurance but ONLY for those named on that policy, so her and the kids. She also needs to check the wording in her policy, some insurances will cover her cancelling if a spouse/travelling partner is unwell, others will not.Save £200 a month : [STRIKE]Oct[/STRIKE] Nov Dec Jan Feb Mar Apr0

This is meant to be a help forum....So whilst I understand some peoples sentiments the idea is we try to help and not criticise! OP knows how stupid it is NOW not to renew insurance. Right your partner should be covered...inc for the 3 children. There will be excesses to pay on all 3 claims - at least that is the norm. You often will have to provide proof that you have not flown... meaning you may infact have to pay the airline for each none fly certificate. This IMO is a bit of a con! So also keep any info confirming that you will not fly. You did nt say who you were flying with, although if its a low cost airline the previous will apply for each leg and may negate a claim. ( I have been thro this and not infact claimed as it was not worth it) B4 you agree to cancel see if you can amend... try to speak to the airline direct if T Rep will not help. There are exceptions to the rule its just speaking to the right person. I good and bad last year when cancelling an independantly booked multi muli centre trip for 5 of us. It is surprising what you may get people to do if you lay it on thick, my Mum was rushed into hospital the day we were flying> good luck and hope that wrist mends. On that score please ensure you get physio and pay for more if you can otherwise you ll wish you had a little time down the line. Finally could you not fly out in plaster after the op on your amended flight and let your partner fly on the original day. Think of all the options before you take the hit.0

That may not be the case though as everyone on the policy is fit to travel.
Will depend on the policy of course0 -

In my experience it should be OK but the OP partner needs to speak with the insurance company ASAP. I work in the industry and whilst you may be correct the policy I feel there will be opportunity to claim. I would still look at all options possible as I said tho as the insurance company will expect this. When this happened to me we had 4 different companies to deal with and all were OK with the claim. OP take action urgently speak with the correct parties as I suggested.0 -
Why not send the rest of your party on holiday and you stay behind for your operation?
That way you are the only one to lose out because you forgot to get travel insurance.0 -
Sorry, but the Credit card company won't help, and have no obligation to do so. Section 75 is for supplier failure. No supplier has failed to provide you any good/service here. You booked non-refundable flights and you now cannot travel, this is not the fault of Travel Republic, the airline, or the credit card.
Your partner may be able to claim for her and her children. However, it is only a 'may' depending on how the insurance company view the situation. They may argue that they could still travel, and that you are not a dependant seeing as its only a wrist operation (I don't say "only" to belittle your operation/situation btw, but that may be the argue an insurance company uses). She needs to speak to her travel insurance to get the answer. They will not even consider refunding your flight cost as you are not insured, but she may get hers and her childrens.0 -

One of the questions asked on every travel insurance policy I have taken out is about details of close relatives/friends whose ill health would lead to me needing to cancel. Couples should always buy insurance as a pair.
Why is your partner going to say she can't travel? Certainly she can't say it is because of you needing surgery.0 -

Only after being in plaster for 48 hrs, even then the airline can refuse unless you get a fit to fly certificate from the doctor. Also the OP may need the cast spilt and this may be an issue medically after an operation.Save £200 a month : [STRIKE]Oct[/STRIKE] Nov Dec Jan Feb Mar Apr0 -

Different companies ask different questions. Some just ask for any existing conditions for those people who's ill health may affect your ability to travel. The OP's other half needs to contact her travel insurance to see what she is and isn't insured for.0 -
On a slightly different tack, it may be worth getting a second opinion about the urgency of the operation. My husband had a badly broken wrist after a motorbike accident. Six weeks later the plaster came off and the wrist hadn't set as it should have done, so he needed an operation to rebreak the bones and reset them with pins.
I don't recall there being an terrible urgency for the op, just that it had to be done sooner rather than later0
