Smoke screen?

I know the images from London, Birmingham etc are incredibly distressing & there is absolutely no excuse for any of it what so ever.
I have a huge sympathy for the innocent people caught up in this violence, coming from Northern Ireland, I know what it's like.

It seems very strange, however, that it just happened to take place at the same time as the stock markets are in free fall. I normally don't believe in coincidences but this one is very strange. The riots, rightly, have taken over the news, just at the same time when otherwise full focus would be on the economy.

I really hope I'm wrong but is there any sort of weight for the 2 events happening at the same time?

This is only one of many possible reasons.

Criminal thugs. Time to bring in the army.

LOL. They failed to put a stop loss on and are on the hook for a big margin payment!

Do you think their broker will accept a 42" HD-ready TV, a pair of tracksuit trousers and a roll of poor quality carpet?

The police (and army) should be given the choice to do what they feel is necessary so no investigations into whether they went too far etc in the event of few deaths. In a riot situation anyone on the streets should be fair game to be whacked over the head with a truncheon until they stop moving.

Although in reality an investigation would have to take place in the event of a death, the police should be given the benifit of the doubt when they too are in a life and death situation, afterall the police are not there by choice but the rioters are.

I think the coverage by the conventional mass media has probably fuelled the rioting.

Its a pity the media have not had the opportunity to show mass arrests or rioters losing the battle with the police
