NatWest - When is Cash, Cash?

Same here, when I was with Natwest, cash + cheque on the same paying in slip, show next day, split cash and cheques across two paying in slips (1 for cash 1 for cheques) cash will show and be available immediately.0

Whata strange way for things to happen.
This doesn't happen at the bank I work for - but then again we don't have take-more-time paying in-slips either. You get a receipt for the cheques and cash that have credited your account straight away0 -
Same here-cash is credited straight away, cheques also but obviously uncleared-but both will appear within seconds on the account. It's only if they're deposited in the machine that it takes longer as it depends when someone physically removes them from the machine and pays them in.Debts Jan 2014 £20,108.34

Amanda is correct is what she has said about NatWest. The actual machine is more or less a big calculator for cash. Where the cash and cheques are paid in together the cash does not show immediately on the balance(real time) but will show overnight as being paid in same day. Only if it is cash on its own paid in can you draw on it same day ie real time. There is only 1 exception to this and that is at branches where they still do not have teller machines which mean that everything is processed by a Voucher Processing Centre and is like the old days of NatWest which was available the following day.0

It's the same at RBoS, a mixture of cash and cheques doesn't 'clear' till the cheques clear. Cash clears straight away. I used to split the deposit and fill out two slips.0

Yep, Halifax are exactly the same.
Cash won't clear till cheque clears.0 -

You may be a Natwest cashier, but let me explain.
I go to the bank with cash and cheques. Normally the cashier swipes the deposit slip through the reader and then enters the cash amount then the cheque amount into the computer. Within the hour the deposit shows on my online banking and I can use the cash amount to pay bills and use my debit card.
This time I beleive the cashier was lazy and didn't do her job properly as she didnt even swipe the deposit slip.
amandathe panda - this sort of comment & attitude is why I've stopped posting on this site - I used to try & explain & help but some people always think they know your job better than you - our branch has won numerous awards in our area for customer service as nominated for by the customers - & I used to help on this site with my experience of the banking system but hell, what do I know I've only been in for 25 years!! - so I apologise to all the genuine posters out there but its the prats on this site that ruin it for the majority - I take my hat off to you amanda for keeping going but I've had it0 -
20 years banking experience , I know what I am talking about and was only trying to be helpful. Some people don't want to listen and just enjoy bank bashing.0

I'm sorry I don;t agree with this as work there
Halifax cash clears straight away at counter. They don't use paying in slips. You pay the cash in with cheques and appears straight away
If deposits are put in ATM machine then this will take a while to clear- as have to be checked first. Believe me some people have put that they have put £1million in the cash envelope
They have new IDM machines in some branches (large ones) that you just put all the cash in at once and cheques on card based accounts and it credits the account straight way0 -
