have you got cavity walls between you and 'noisy next door'? any possibility of them getting filled? mine are single skin therma blocks (I actually know the builder, and he swears they cut down noise better than old fashioned brick! which is rubbish! I could hear every word from next door and hear if she sneezed, coughed, put the light on etc) so I used cork boards on our living room walls and put plasterboard over that and got it professionally plastered. it took an inch or so off our living room - but at least it dampens the noise down. and had a word with her about there being no privacy in these houses as the walls were like cardboard - she got the message!0

Very much of a lurker although i do appreciate these boards tremendously I don't feel I have that much time to devote etc so don't get properly involved.:o
Astara thanks for the response, really glad it worked for you how did you have it done? Was it just boards and then you redcoarted or ripping off plaster etc?
I have no idea and really need a cheap but effective way of getting this done plus when we do sell eventually it will be a good thing as although we had the noise problems they are no longer there if you see what I mean. Also it just takes a massive stress factor away
I can't really remember now but I did lose a little bit of ceiling height and they did re-plaster and then I had it re- decorated. Really hope you find a solution that works for you!0 -
Thank you both for the replies I really do appreciate it.
We are looking into cavity wall insulation but the survey won't be until September although I didn't think it would cut the noise down but very handy to know..thanks.
They very much know about the noise they just don't care and think that it is normal for them to be screaming the F word at her 8 year old at 10pm......also that drilling and using a chop saw is a suitable activity from 9pm anywhere up to midnight...not once not twice but repeatedly...not to mention the fact that to them it is perfectly normal to get her brothers to threaten me and my 4 year old and then deny it:mad: pah gits they are just gits! rant over:o
Hmm re decoration it may be then...yet more money:eek: I will have to see if we could even afford to start having it done0 -
I've been thinking of looking into this lately, for my room, more for my neighbours benefit than mine lol.Living Simply, not simply living.Weight Loss - 5b/55lb
