Please help re soundproofing

Hi,

Hope this is in the right place, I need help, we are all at the end of our tether with the neighbours there is just no way around it we have tried everything and it has been going on for over 1 year, we can't take anymore.

Does anyone know how to soundproof a house at a good price without having to renovate and extensively re decorate. We have had quotes of over 6 grand for just 3 walls:eek::eek:
We really can't afford that.

Please anyone..I know I am probably babbling but I am desperate and you lot seem really knowledgable (long time lurker)

Thanks in advance

    Move...............

Or post on the DIY board
Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.
  • Well that was helpful for you wasnt it? Moving isnt easy and why should you when its the neighbours at fault. Not sure if youve posted in the wrong part to be honest but anyway, have you complained to the Council or anything? Maybe try them first and see what they say. I had a problem with a noisy neighbour and it was resolved fairly quickly. They were in a housing association property and they sorted the problem out really fast.

There is nothing worse than noisy inconsiderate neighbours.
I have every possession I want. I have a lot of friends who have a lot more possessions. But in some cases I feel the possessions possess them, rather than the other way round

I could have written out a whole debate, but it would have come to the same single word conclusion.

Well thanks for that earth shattering response!

If we could afford to move believe me there is no way in hell we would still be here but a move is not in any way affordable or sensible quite frankly.

But thanks as I will re post on the DIY board.

Stars and Moon thank you for your response, yes we have done all the reporting bit but the housing association are worse than useless and are dragging their feet etc.
I do agree there should be no reason why we should move when we put a lot of heart soul and money into the property that has lovely memories, the first house we bought together, our childs first home etc and it is a shame but we would move if we could even though it is all their inconsiderate nastiness that has caused this issue. Personally I just wish they would shove off but hey ho rant over.

Again thanks for your sensible response.
  • Thats ok. Your new here so wont know which board would give the best advice. I dont either lol. Im surprised the housing association didnt respond properly. When I had a problem they were acted swiftly (maybe there had been other complaints I didnt know about though). Why should you move because of inconsiderate people. Ive got a mortgage on my house and probably would struggle to sell at the moment plus its taken me 2 years to get various jobs done etc so why should someone have the right to make my life miserable.

Keep complaining to the housing association. I did all mine via email so have a record of when I complained. There was a backlash off the person making the noise after being told off and they made a horrendous noise early one Sunday. Howver this backfired as another neighbour got fed up and went and thumped him! Silence has reigned since :rotfl:That method is not to be recommended although very tempting and also very effective.

I had my bedroom ceiling soundproofed some years ago and it was one of the best things I could ever have done. It was expensive but worth every penny! I am rarely disturbed by noise at night now so it's worked or my neighbours have got quieter!!

If you look at my posts i have had the same problem,we was quoted the same ridiculous figures that you was and said no.A local builder is doing our en-suite ceiling, bedroom ceiling and one wall for £750.He is removing the plasterboard installing dense fibre matting in the frames and using acoustic expanding foam to fill any more gaps, reboarding with Kingspan and skimming.I know it will make some difference but i don't know how much,we can hear the people above using the loo, showering, walking, talking, opening and closing kitchen cupboards, preparing food, washing up etc etc.The work we are having done will not solve all the problems but if it works in the areas it is installed then we will have the rest of it done, good luck it is a nightmare.
  • Hmm thumping them...that might work!:rotfl:very tempting it is.

Very much of a lurker although i do appreciate these boards tremendously I don't feel I have that much time to devote etc so don't get properly involved.:o

Astara thanks for the response, really glad it worked for you how did you have it done? Was it just boards and then you redcoarted or ripping off plaster etc?

I have no idea and really need a cheap but effective way of getting this done plus when we do sell eventually it will be a good thing as although we had the noise problems they are no longer there if you see what I mean. Also it just takes a massive stress factor away

Hmm thanks for that...can I be cheeky and ask that you let me know how it goes?
Ours is more shouting and swearing and slamming doors but anything that helps!
