Do you still have the original install disks for the Operating System? If so, you could consider moving the current hard drive to being a secondary drive, and installing a new one with a fresh OS. It's a bit of a sledgehammer to crack a nut, but it will get rid of any possibility of a virus.

As DCM points out, heat could be a factor. It wouldn't hurt to get in there and clean some of the dust (with the power off, unplugged, etc). Best not to use a vacuum cleaner due to static.

Next time you get it loading, go into safe mode (keep hitting F8 until you get the option to start in Safe Mode with Networking) and try to install Malwarebytes.

I can't find a clear reason for the 'reminder_MUI.exe' file to be running, so I'd do another scan with Hijackthis then TICK and FIX this entry:
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Reminder_MUI] C:\Applications\oem\Reminder\Reminder_MUI.exe

Alternatively you can temporarily disable it from starting via MSCONFIG if you want the option of re-enabling it, which is doubtful (press Start, type in MSCONFIG, then run it; Go to the STARTUPS tab, then unselect the reminder_mui entry)

It might be worth while downloading Speccy from piriform http://www.piriform.com/speccy
and let it monitor , just on the summary screen which tells you the overall cpu temperature screen
and keep an eye on it .....When I get home I will fire it up on my Quad and see what the range is when busy. I also noticed on my lappy Norton when getting updates it runs a quick scan, and that sets fire to my Celeron Duo (well almost) so I stripped my lappy and cleared out lots of tacky stuff. Norton is not normally very heavy unless it is scanning.

Hi babyemily, I just checked on speccy and my Quad Q8200 has average 46C for CPU and went up to 50C with a quick scan on Norton. What does yours show at nothing much running and say with a Norton Quick scan ?

AMD chips tend to run hotter than intels, and intel's thermal cut-out kicks in around 75 degrees. Should be similar for AMD, poss a touch higher. If it starts building up to upper 50's or above, yopu definitely need to clean it out, especially around the processor fan :)
