o2 Broadband Discount for Mobile Customer

Hello All

I am currently on one of o2's broadband packages and receive the £5 discount for being an o2 mobile customer.

At the end of September my mobile contract comes to an end and I intend to move to the giffgaff network. Obviously this network is owned by the same company as o2 but is not o2 - so I don't think I would receive the £5 discount, am I correct?

My housemate is on o2, but I have been told by an o2 sales rep (called them to enquire about home phone options through o2) that I would not be able to get the discount because the broadband contract is not in my housemates name. They said that they would not be able to change the broadband contract into her name.

Is this correct? I have been told on another thread here that I could quite easily use my housemates o2 contract to qualify for the discount.

Anything else I can do?

No, you will not get the discount on giffgaff. The 02 rep is entirely wrong, you can register any 02 mobile number you like to get the discount-friend, family, it doesn't matter, as long as the mobile is either in contract or, if PAYG, is topped up every 3 months minimum.
Most PAYG mobiles are not registered to a specific name or address anyway.

I'll have to try again then. He was quite adamant that, if contract, it has to be in the same name. He said I could use my Mum's PAYG one as it wouldn't be registered, but I actually want to move her over to giffgaff too!

Just go ahead and register whatever number you want via your online account, you don't have to do this by speaking to anyone at 02.
Once you've reg'd the number, they simply send a confirmatory text to that number.
