I cannot for one minute believe that 90% of the population under insure on home insurance. The vast majority of household plans for nearly 20 years have been automatic sum insured plans with the sum insured much higher than the total required amount.

That said. I can imagine quite a lot of people with high risk items or personal possessions failing to name high value items when they should do. Either on purpose or accidentally.

They aint, by a long shot. At the moment I'm doing 4/5 visits a day and I'd say out of the 20-25 visits a week roughly 1 will have a contents sum insured low enough to mean you need to properly look at it.

He is in this mess because of himself, not esure, yet seems to blame them for it.

Thanks so much, you wise folk...(Flamecloud & dunston). Hope I was as wise and clever as u and not made such a mistake. Then I could have passed my high & mighty wisdom to all the other pitiful and pathetic people who have only themselves to blame but then have the nerve to post here for support on this insurer's fan club forum.. Lol

Eventually swinton put me through to their specialist arm known as Walmsleys from Wigan
I'm not aware that Swintons had specialist arms. Walmsleys website makes no connection with Swinton.
They said they dont use esure on their panel of insurers and wouldnt touch them with a bargepole!
I understood esure to be direct insurers only. For a broker to say that they don't use esure out of choice is misleading. Or perhaps a sign that whoever you spoke to doesn't know the market.

Sorry for exaggerated Figure but report below says 40% of claimants are underinsured. What of the majority who never have to claim? We would only know a true figure if everyone claimed at once only then to realise they're underinsured. I've held contents & buildings insurance for 2 decades and never had to claim, only discovered issue after our recent misfortune with the burglary and claim and will never make same mistake! There are millions like me who will have same problem if they ever are unfortunate to suffer a burglary/loss. Hopefully they won't be with esure who just leave people high and dry, most normal insurers at least pay out at invoice value or reduced scale as long as undervalue not deliberate.

How about apologising for your comments in post 60 following challenges to your 90% figure? Especially as I commented that in high risk items/personal possessions may be higher.

Its not esure that are at fault. The bottom line, however uncomfortable to you, is that you failed to insure the items adequately. You cannot blame the insurer. Yes esure are tighter on dealing with claims but they havent actually done anything wrong.

The best thing for people reading this thread to do is make sure they adequately insure their items. You provide a good lesson to them of what happens when you dont.

It is also worth sending a (scrupulously polite) letter to Sheilas' Wheels explaining that because of its actions you are now paying significantly increased premiums and pointing out that the additional cost will form part of your claim against it.
... bearing in mind of course that the previous premium was clearly inadequate and should have been higher anyway.

Good, admitting you were wrong should be the first steps to recovery.
