    Cardboard box
    string

bought lots of toys for our kitten Georgie... she prefers cardboard box and string....

As for litter tray.. Tesco's (instore) are doing covered trays for £15
Costco was doing a high walled tray for £5.00 so the covered one is in the garden and the high walled one is in the house as both Gizmo and Georgie do dig for england.. and it has made such a huge difference.

What i loved about Georgie was she has never had an accident, as soon as we got her we showed her the tray and dug it to show her and she knew there and then.

Daisy will go to her tray & look at it,then at me if I'm in the kitchen,as if to say "Well come on cat slave! I need my litter!" or she'll tear around the apartment at a great rate of knots until I get the message!:rotfl:

Oohh ! reading this lovely thread has made me broody for a little kitten but I don't think Eric my 13 y/o moggie would allow it. He really does not get on with other adult cats in our road, and it's been only him and me for 13 years so I'd be scared to introduce a kitty.

Oo I an using paper / newspaper for bottom of tray with wood pellet litter which she likes digging thru as if she's trying to get to oz!

Party election leaflets work well as well - gives a certain satisfaction knowing your cat's doing a great big poo on the Tories/Lib Dems/Labour/Monster Raving Looney Party's propaganda :D

(I actually had a sign on the front door last election campaign warning any leaflets were going to be used for this purpose - cut down on the junk mail substantially!)

  • I just got a male kitten yesterday. Our other cat is 8 and has previously been around other cats but not in the last 5 years. She kept a wide birth from the kitten yesterday and sulked and today she has meowed aggressively at him and even hissed at him, she has never hissed before. Anyone have any tips to help our cat become friendly with the new kitten?
  • She will hiss (and maybe spit and have the odd swipe at him) - she's boss and he's come into her territory!
She will get used to his smell in her house (and same for him) which will be really odd for her at the moment.

As long as the kitten has somewhere safe to get away from her, she shouldn't do any real damage but if you're going out, I would separate them.

Ensure the big cat has "her" place also where she can get peace and quiet from the little one.

Rome wasn't built in a day! Separate rooms with separate litter & feeding is a good start

You're dealing with a cat remember - nothing on this earth, not even a woman denied shoe shopping, can sulk like a feline who feels wronged.

Give it time. They'll hiss, they'll spit, they'll flounce around with tails like loo brushes, then one morning you'll find a purring mass of mish-mashed moggy curled up together.

Don't forget to makes lots of fuss of your older cat - her nose has been put out of joint with the introduction of the kitten - and don't make a big fuss of the kitten in front of her.
