we are going to go for coverered tray...thank you so much for the pic there that is really helpfull as I was worrying about windows xx
No problem,it's really simple, all you need is thin chain cut into 5" lengths & 1/2" self tapping screws. You can use the top screw on the latch itself but adjust the chain length to suit your cat.0 -
as she's a long hair, i'd advise to get her used to being groomed, so start of gently brushing her, probably best when she is relaxed so it feels like stoking, then as she get used to the sensation, you shouldn't have problems later if she get matts. do it regularly.
Also, if you can afford it, perhaps get a cat tower for her to climb over and keep her amused.
also, play with her feet and toes, that way she won't put up a fight if you neet to clip her claws cos she's used to them being touched.Cats don't have owners - they have staff!!DFW Long Hauler Supporter No 1500 -
We found that our kitten had wee'd in the basket during the drive home. We took this as an oppotunity to re-inforce the litter tray - the old towel that lined the basket was cut up and the wee'd on bit was stuck in the litter tray.
Snoop then had a familiar smell when it came to using the litter tray. We kept an eye on him and grabbed him when he looked like he was looking for somewhere to have a wee/poo.
Worked fine, he was happy using the tray by the end of the day
Enjyou your new kitten, we love our Snoop - he is a little bit simple but very funny and doesn't have an aggressive/irritable/mean bone in his bodyWhether you think you can or you can’t, you’re probably right ~ Henry Ford0 -

Our kitten is about 4 months old (gumtree - I know but this is her third home and little soul needs a family). Picked up scratching post on way home with her from local petfood warehouse. I use a couple of old trays (one old school drawer and one plant watering tray) and Mr T's value litter.
Open plan ground floor so little one has to stop in bathroom when we're out or it gets so hot indoors that we need the back door open!
Caught her considering abseiling out of the bedroom window yesterday so all windows only open a crack (hope it doesn't get too hot!). DH has made her a little covered run from wire outside which she goes in for a little while if we are outside. She's desperate to explore but will have to wait until she is spayed at 6 months. It is a pain though having to keep her out of the way every time we open an outside door.
Bed downstairs and in kitchen is a box with cut out in front and towel inside. She loves the one in the bathroom. Also uses them for teething. Sleeps with us at night, cue us having to endure licked faces, chewed toes etc! Travel basket is plastic coated wire with towel inside. This does for cats, hens, rabbits as required.
Start grooming young. Ensure you buy food for kittens rather than cats. I use 1 sachet of whiskas kitten and make up with dry food.
Good luck! Please do not quote spam as this enables it to 'live on' once the spam post is removed.

Whiskas is (rap for whatever age cat. Adult quality catfood is far better0 -
Yeah I agree with others mentioning that two cats are better than one! We got one kitten last Sunday and when we had went to pick him up, his brother was the only one left so by the Monday I phoned the woman and asked if I could go get him! Best decision ever. They play about together, sleep together, eat together!
We didn't get a cat bed, we cut a 'door' out an old box and put an old fleece inside then hid it behind one on the chairs in our living room - they love the privacy! We also got a cat tree, which they love and play on for hours - out of Pets at Home.
We got a litter tray from Pets at Home also, it has a lip at the top so that prevents loads of litter all over the floor! I also picked up litter tray liners, like bags for the inside of the litter tray. I found these to really come in handy when it comes to cleaning out the litter tray. Much more manageable! Remember and pick up litter tray cleaner though!
Good luck & enjoy your new arrival!x

We always shove the local free paper (only good use for it) in the bottom of the litter box before putting litter in - it stops that delightful moment when you're changing the full lot over of having to scrape off the peed on solid stuff off with your hand in a plastic bag. Seems to make the litter last a lot longer as well.... I also took great delight in using every election leaflet to the same ends as a matter of principle.Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0 -
Thanks all .. She is perfect so well natured! Currently curled up next to me on the Pillow after playing all morning. Purring away. She's not even gone near her kitten bed we bought hehe! Likes our bed instead!0
