where to go on hol with baby, not too much of time difference

Hi

Just looking for some advice. We are looking at taking our baby on holiday, but dont want to mess about with their sleeping pattern too much.

Would somewhere in Africa be a good idea? We would be worried about having a good hospital close in case of the worst? Or if anyone else has any good ideas, please let us know.

We like wildlife watching holidays if thats any help.

You can go all the way to Cape Town, not much time difference at all, what flight time were you thinking of?

Where are you in the UK?

If this is your first holiday with your baby, then I'd suggest trying somewhere in the UK first. No changes in climate, time zone etc, and a medical system you're familiar with. Look on it as a chance to work out what you need/don't need, how much disruption your baby will tolerate etc.

    Hi

thanks for the replies. We've been to a festival so far with the baby, and all was well (tbh it was nice to have an excuse to come back to the tent early as am not a night owl :-)

We live near to London so getting to one of the big airports wouldnt be a prob. Is south africa a safe option? You hear so much on news about crime etc It would be good for a safari hol but maybe its not so safe?

    thanks again

I would not take a baby on an African safari - lots of travel, unfamiliar climate, plenty of potential health risks. There's plenty of wildlife you could watch in Europe, including the UK.

Plenty of wildlife in the Camargue region of France http://www.midi-france.info/07020201_camargue.htm

South Africa is lovely, and safe if you are as sensible as you would be in London. I think the flight to Cape town is 12 hours though...

When do you want to go? The southern hemisphere is currently in winter, good for wildlife watching though as there's less bush to scan to see the animals.

We have just booked a wintersun holiday in Lanzarote at the end of January. I think the Canary Islands are pretty good for warm weather in our winter. First time we've taken our little boy abroad (he's currently nearly 9 month old)
There is no excuse for rudeness. Ignorance on the other hand is excusable – you don’t know what you’re talking about.

South Africa is great! Went at christmas, 4 nights safari just outside of J'Burg stayed at 'Leopard Hills' take a look-great! The animals that we saw were incredible! And then 4 nights over new years in Cape Town, stayed at 'The one and only', again CT was great! Felt very safe both times! I think you would be incredibly safe on a safari!

thank you again, I must admit we like the sound of South Africa for the wildlife experience but I'll do some research on the safety angle i think.

Portugal is worth thinking about - not the tourist beaches of the Algarve but the wilder, greener and more natural countryside and coast further north. I think Portugal is in the same time zone as the UK.

Enjoy your holiday wherever you decide to go.
