Does anyone know why butter, margarine etc have gone up to ridiculous prices over the past 6 months?
The market price for wholesale butter shot up in the spring - exchange rates, spring drought, a conspiracy to defraud the British public, something like that.I too monitored prices with DTD (those were the days ...) and that illustrated to me that prices on some products/packs were set artificially high to enable the offers....
That's a pretty much standard supermarket marketing trick ....Switching multi-pack sizes/size of cans/bottles etc included is another favourite - look at bottles of lager that used to be pretty much standard 330ml/24 in a case and now 15 or 18 in a case and 284ml or similar for the same price.
.... and that's another oneI don't know about others on here, but you need to be very savvy shopping so that you don't fall for some of the supermarket cons. I always look at the pack sizes, price being charged and the supposed original price when shopping and make a decision whether it is really good value/an offer or just a price/promotion con.
Yup. That's why some of us come here, in order to increase our SQ. (Savvynes Quotient)The shocking thing is that you see so many people walking round with trolleys full, throwing items into the trolley without even looking at prices (I say shocking, as no matter how much you have, it is better to keep the money in your pocket than the retailers!).
Mission accomplished; if you happens to be running the marketing dept of any supermarket chain.0 -

Tesco Value butter has gone up 11p in a week  I wrote online to complain. At twice the rate of annual inflation and on top of other price rises, I don't know how that can be justified.Just when I'm about to make ends meet, somebody moves the ends0 -
