Are all these offers on now, or do they start at a later date?

    they are all on now
  • Very helpful - but it's worth bearing in mind that in my view 90% of these items are processed rubbish. It goes to show how cheap sugary food must have an amazing mark-up in the first place. You'll save more than money by trying to buy (and cook?) proper food.
No reliance should be placed on the above.
  • My local Morrisons is selling the large George Foremen Grills at half price only £49:j

I love Morrisons fresh meat. It's so much tastier than Asda's and seems to contain less water. They have offers for it on every weekend too :)

    Eddie, I'd tend to disagree.
I've been watching the websites of both Asda and Tesco over the last few months (making the most of dtd/jtd and apg 10%) and the before prices on Morrrison's website show very little difference from the other two, maybe the odd penny but that's it.
As far as the list I made today is concerned, Morrison's deals are half the price of T or A. Maybe you are just noticing the general upward trend of food that everyone has been complaining about - it's happening everywhere!

Does anyone know why butter, margarine etc have gone up to ridiculous prices over the past 6 months? Utterly Butterly, for example, was on offer for 55p/65p (half price) alternating with I can't believe its not butter in Morrisons, Netto and elsewhere for much of the past year - we are now expected to believe that around £1.80/500g is the "normal" price and now 90p is half price. Given milk has come down in price (£1 for 4 pints) it seems that these have gone the other way?

I too monitored prices with DTD (those were the days ...) and that illustrated to me that prices on some products/packs were set artificially high to enable the offers - you see this clearly illustrated every year with Stawberries almost always on half price from the moment they come in season (and no doubt £3.98 for 400g for one type/pack for a few weeks when you weren't looking in early summer!).

Nescafe Gold Blend/coffee is another where the price seems to be artificially inflated for odd weeks so that it can be rolled back (and the high price/RRP has been significantly increased recently so that the offer price is now nearer the full price it used to be!).

Muller Corners are almost constantly on promotion somewhere (whoever pays 60p for one normally must be mad), as is Frijj and we could probably list many more examples.

Switching multi-pack sizes/size of cans/bottles etc included is another favourite - look at bottles of lager that used to be pretty much standard 330ml/24 in a case and now 15 or 18 in a case and 284ml or similar for the same price.

I don't know about others on here, but you need to be very savvy shopping so that you don't fall for some of the supermarket cons. I always look at the pack sizes, price being charged and the supposed original price when shopping and make a decision whether it is really good value/an offer or just a price/promotion con. The shocking thing is that you see so many people walking round with trolleys full, throwing items into the trolley without even looking at prices (I say shocking, as no matter how much you have, it is better to keep the money in your pocket than the retailers!).

    Rant over ;)

Does anyone know if the Asda price check compares other stores 'own' brands?
