Is Silestone very expensive too then?

For a standard Silestone colour such as sparkly black or white, trade price for a slab is around £800 + vat.

You'll need two slabs, so the cost of the materail to the mason is around £2000 before their mark up, before they start any work.

A two slab job in Silestone is going to be £3,500 to £4,500 by the time it arrives in your kitchen.

For a £2,500 budget supplied and fitted you're going to be looking for non branded product.

Thanks for the idea on prices :)
When you say non-branded does that mean granite? or are there generic quartzes? (and if there is-how do I know if its a good one?

If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands

  • Thank you! I do like that design, its nice to see it not just in my head IYKWIM :D:)
It won't look quite as streamlined as that though unfortunately (freestanding washing machine will be to right of fridge freezer) and the cooker, DW and extra freezer are all freestanding too. But I think the layout will work, the wrap round the wall leaves us still with a decent amount of workspace (we lose a 1.8m run where the FF will go.)

Well, most importantly, the design works, so at least the kitchen will be usable.

And yes, you'll have plenty of worktop space, so prep area wont be an issue.

  • Do you think the 30cm bit will be wide enough for me to keep my kenwood chef?
And also-is it possible to stick a normal microwave in a cupboard? ( I was thinking of maybe putting it in the cupboard with the boiler in it, on a shelf just below-to free up the worktop space?)

Should be wide enough, IIRC Kenwood Chefs are around 25cm deep?

No issues with sticking the microwave into the same housing where the boiler is, although I'd probably leave a gap of around 15-20cm between the top of the microwave and the boiler, to prevent any heat transfer...

  • Cool. Yeah the kenwood is about 25cm I reckon, its over 35cm long, but can sit sideways on the counter. At 10ish kg, I don't fancy hoiking it in and out of the cupboard ;)
