Annoyed with Vodafone.

I got a phone call offering me an early upgrade as I'd paid all my bills on time, my contract wasn't up until November so I said I wanted to wait as I didn't want to add 3 months on to the next contract and I wanted a new contract as I wan't using all my minutes/texts. He said it would cancel out my remaining time on my contract and he could offer me a lower tariff. However the phone was a bit rubbish so I took out a newer phone (HTC Desire S) but kept the same tariff and the contract was only 21 months.

This was fine with me so received the phone last Monday, now the phone, I'm not happy with it, I rarely use the apps/internet and my battery drains so quickly, I might be doing something wrong but I don't think I am.

Received the confirmation letter yesterday but it says I still have 102 days left of my previous contract so it won't end until 06.11.13 which is forever away, I'm not happy as he said it would cancel it out!

Also the phone is using my internet allowance so fast, I've never used it all in the past 21 months but after 20 days of new allowance it's nearly all gone, I'm putting it down to the new phone.

Anyone suggest what I can do?

You will have 7 working days to return the phone and cancel the new contract.

If you give Customer Services a call, they will be able to arrange for the phone to be collected and for your new contract to be cancelled.
  • Yet another person lied to by vodafone and mis-sold. How does this company get away with it?

Whenever you have a few hours to spare call 191 and tell them your issue with the contract length, you agreed verbally to a contract that they are not providing (24 months instead of 21). You may get lucky and they agree it was a mistake and change the contract, just ensure you get this in writing.

As for phone/internet allowance, android uses alot of data but there are ways you can reduce this. The most important is to ensure you are connected to wi-fi whenever available (at home/work). Change how often apps update and try to update them through wifi rather than mobile data.

I guess you had 14 days cooling off period in which you could change your mind... however if it has taken 20 days for the confirmation letter to arrive, which shows details you did not agree to you could be able to opt out... dont expect it to be easy with vodafone tho.

Just looked at my bill online and I already owe them £4.94 for going over my internet, it's bloody ridiculous!

Actually, ignore this, just realised it's the delivery charge for my new phone.

Why are you annoyed with Vodafone and not yourself?
Ok let's look at it slightly differently, you are not going to sleep with a guy just because he says you are attractive are you? Likewise the sales rep spun you some charm and you took the bait, the majority of bill payers pay on time, if you didn't wake up that morning thinking, hmm I fancy a new handset, then when you recieved the call you should have simply said "no thanks", after all that though you maybe protected by the distance selling, although it was an upgrade it was an early one, fingers crossed for you and don't be lapping up the sweet talk.

A little harsh, DUTR. Op claims to have had a call offering to downgrade contract and cancel last 3 months. That could be attractive.

I agree, however, that to be rushed into a new like for like contract with a phone that OP hadn't researched was abit silly. No excuse for the false inducement to a new contract writing off 3 months of the original one, theough/

Before it's too late, OP should as Voda to listen to the recording of that call - assuming, of course it was Voda themselves and not a 3rd party impersonator.

Who knows, the Voda director may fire the salesman on the spot and send OP a £250 cheque, just like here this lucky guy https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/3400122:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Contracts are not for 21 months, its either 18 or 24 months.

If you have started a new 18 month contract, the remaining 3 months on your previous contract would have been added on to make 21 months total at the new lower price.

You wont have a problem returning the phone and cancelling out the new contract, but do it as soon as you can, your 7 days return to change your mind will end Tuesday and make sure you get email confirmation.
