I have a heated tower style drying rack which costs v little to run and I wouldn't be without it but only use it during the winter months or emergencies. We don't have a tumble drier and the rest of the time I line dry everything.

I haven't been injured by a clothes peg-yet-but have slipped on the wet grass a couple of times when hanging out washing.

And it's good. If it pours down stuff on the outside might be wet, but if i know the forecast isn't good then i hang everything well inside.

Having just come back from holiday with acres of washing, i could put it all through the tumble drier but decided there is no need to panic and it can wait a few days for everything to be line dried.
I wanna be in the room where it happens

I have washed the curtains tonight in the spare guest bedroom. I have hung them straight back up and opened the window up behind them to dry them off quicker.

My tumble is in the garage but it is vented to go outside so I don't get the condensation. In the winter I try to dry as much as I can on the airers that I have, but with things such as towels (both ours and the dogs towels) and the sheets, I do use the tumble dryer for those, but I keep checking and remove things once they are dry. For me personally in the winter the dryer is a useful piece of kit which at times could be classed as essential. Other times such as this April to date, it is not used because everything goes outside on the line to dry and if we have had the odd damp day it has gone on the airer in the conservatory and dried off out there.
