I have to admit I do use the dryer quite a bit. I try and line dry as much as possible but at the moment with a house of 6 plus the cat and dog it's almost impossible not to use the dryer occasionally.

We have a washer/dryer - The dryer for emergencies only. Due to limited space we couldnt have both and I wanted to have the tumble dryer facility just in case. To be honest I think I have used it about 3 times in the last 18 months.

I like many of us love the fresh smell of laundry in off the line not to mention its a much cheaper way to dry your clothes.

In winter we have an airer in the back bedroom.

Towel / bedding dryers over the landing banister in winter.

I have a washer/dryer so no extra space needed but I very rarely use the dryer.
Have to admit I will use it in emergencies when I need something done or when the heavens open and all four washing lines are full but I would'nt use it usually.
I much prefer line drying and if I have to have the clothes airer up to let damp laundry air I always put the dehumidifyer on and that dries stuff bone dry overnight.
Just want to say that much better than a heated airer is a dehumidifyer, especially in winter when things get damp anyway.
Yesterday I had twelve towels that had to be dried indoors because it started to rain non stop just after I put the washer on.
I put them on the airer over night with the dehumidifter running and they were bone dry this morning and so was the room and so much cheaper than a dryer.

I've never had any trouble with damp in the room and always dry my washing inside but probably only a couple of loads per week. The best thing I've found is using the eco setting on the washer as the clothes are simply less wet when they come out (I was a bit dubious about that at first but they do seem clean still!)

Having lived in a flat with no outside drying place and a terrible damp problem, I have no intention of ruining by new house by allowing washing to 'dry' (ie, get stinky) sticking it indoors when it rains.

I will dry things outside in good weather and the rest of the time, I will unashamedly use the tumble dryer.

A cost of £70 a year is cheaper than washing clothes repeatedly because they smell bad, cheaper than redecorating because there is mould destroying the place, cheaper than being ill permanently due to mould spore allergies, chucking clothes away because they have picked up mould that won't wash out properly, not getting on so well at work because your clothes smell musty, having people move away from you on the bus because you smell musty and not being able to keep dustmite infestation down by washing on hot every week, as it is impossible to dry linen weekly.

I also agree with this to a certain extent. I have been into peoples houses that have a musty smell from damp washing, or the wallpaper has lifted by the radiators (wet clothes on radiators is makes my heart sink) and condensation on the windows in winter.

I have a tumble drier and wouldn't be without it (if it broke I would replace it) but I only use it when absolutely necessary. Even on cold winter days I "lighten" everything before being put on an airer. We have one in the garage next to the boiler and warm pipes, and one in the spare room (I know we are lucky to have one). I open the window everyday when washing is drying and when the window can't be opened I put on the dehumidifyer to aid drying and keep the room damp free. The key is not having lots of wet washing concentrated in one room that doesn't have good air circulation and having a good spin on your washing machine (mine does 1200 which gets things a lot drier than my old one) I admit that if I have lots of drying building up in winter I "finish" off on a cooler setting in the tumble dryer.

Ultimately there are not many days when we can't put the washing out even for a few hours.

I've always had a dryer and wouldn't be without it,because of this I've never known the running costs. I've got one of those Owl things to monitor usage but can't fit it

I love my dryer, love it, love it, love it.

You are all evil, nasty people. Hush your mouths you nay sayers.

Tumble dryer owners of the world unite in defence of your beloved appliance. A tumble dryer is for life, not just for Xmas.
