That sick exam feeling

  • I'm a mature student with kids and I don't get any leeway!!!! Crikey - where are you going???

^^I'm at Newcastle University. I wouldn't mind if they gave an extra day, but there are people who constantly hand work in late, and are not even penalised. Granted I'm bitter because I failed a module, but hey. It's not fair.
I disagree with this at it depends so much on what uni you go to and what you study. I went to a russell group uni and didn't really find it all that hard, partly because it was in Accountancy which is what I'm best at (I kind of got better from gcse's to a levels then to degree, as I specialised in what I'm best at). However my partner did Accountancy at Exeter uni and jees some of the stuff she had to do was soooo hard, 100 times harder than what I had to do, yet ultimately the same degree.....

^^Perhaps that's it then. I'm at a Russell group uni too... The amount of work that we get is immense in comparison with anything I've ever had to do. Perhaps it is because the subject I do is largely essay based? I know that my neighbour did Accountancy at the same uni as me, and he found it hard too.
i do just sometimes wonder about uni as people who write their essays on the deadline days seem to get 1st's. Some people are naturally lucky I suppose.

^^I think it has a lot to do with working well under pressure. I am very much like this... I could sit for days and write an essay, and scrape a 2.1. yet the essays that I complete through the night, just before the deadline, earn me good marks. Maybe my procrastination is a blessing in disguise.

Yes, but revising for cell biology will get you a job.

Posting on MSE doesn't guarantee much. ;)

I might be slightly biased towards cell biology!

I really find drawing it out in a mind map or spider chart helps at the last minute as you can just store the branches in your memory for short time, which is all you need.

I get that sick feeling even for essays - I have one due in on Wednesday - I have done reading and notes, but as ever, I am never sure if I am approaching it in the right way. I do check the criteria, but it is always so vague! I tend to do really well in exams, but not so well in essays for some reason - our marks are only 2nd marked if over 40% (not yet!!!) or over 70% as standard, otherwise it is a 10% chance it will be 2nd marked. They won't second mrk if you have a dispute about it though which seems a bit unfair.

I think that is very true. I don't "do" stress and I tend to fall apart under pressure. I have never left anything until the night before as the thought of it would keep me awake for weeks!

I am already stressing about the work due in for May!

I am doing Social Policy, so lots of different things are due in, including my dissertation, which makes me feel ill just thinking about it!

I have worked out in total I have 25000 words to write in 16 weeks!
