Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Sunday 7th August. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Morning everyone, how are you all this morning? What with OH snoring and a little boy asking "Daddy, can I be with you?" at 5am, I'm up early! JackieG I've not looked at any photos, but the reading was lovely - I might give it to my OH just to remind him!! So sorry to hear about the kitchen though - hope its all sorted soon. xx

Yesterday was a total washout - literally. All set to go out to a DIY chain and it thunders, so OH doesn't want to go - cue the rest of the day with him spent on his computer playing WOW :mad::mad::mad:. The boys did nothing but argue so they went to bed early. I spent the day on my computer redesigning my kitchen!!!! Rather than the thousands of pounds that we'll get quoted by various kitchen peeps I managed to do it all for under £3000. Have to say this is a TOTAL pull out and start again as we desperately need better storage. It also includes tiling and removing a wall! Don't do things by halves!!!!

Now just have to have a chat to our friendly builder and see if my guestimates are right or not. Fingers crossed. Today - well the skies have red clouds in them - red sky in the morning, shepherds warning - I remember from my childhood, so all the washing will need to be hung about the house today. 2nd load on, one load in TD and another waiting!! I'd be snowed under without my washer. Dinner today will be freezer pot luck - possibly mince / or a pie that I can cook from frozen. Am proud to say I'm making inroads into my freezer !!!
Love to you all / hugs where needed. x Lou - hugs and just ignore them xxxxxxxx
Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx

March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.

Hi Chums bright and early start this morning as DGD Katie asked if I would run her into work at the local Dockyard where she works as a tour guide The bus either gets her there an hour too early or too late so good old Granny to the rescue. Her mum is having a much needed lay in this morning as she has had a stressful week at work, and her step dad Simon is full of the lurgy thats going the rounds at the moment.I don't mind as she is a good lass and doesn't ask favours often.I am usually up and about by now anyway.DGS Ben is coming to do some weeding for me after lunch so my garden will look a bit tidier before I go away next week.
I spent most of last night doing running repairs on ten pairs of the boys trousers, and then pressing them so I have a big stash of tee shirts, blue cotton school shirts and trousers to go back today in readiness for school next month.
I will do a bit of baking this morning as Ben is coming and he has hollow legs.
Glad everything went well jackieG and hopefully you can get the kitchen sorted .Have a super day everyone and where ever you are I hope the sun is shining on you
    Cheers JackieO xx

    Morning all

JACKIEG glad all went well, hope kitchen gets sorted soon

    MOLLY AND LOU hugs

Well it turns out that my Aunt hasn't been ripped off but has given her money away, she was overheard to say to her carer, "I'm sick of the police being here, it's my money and I can give it to who I want". My Mum is very angry and upset, at the moment, I'm trying to oil over troubled waters. Families, who'd have 'em!

Plan today to go to my early gym class, then I probably will do some gardening as I'm not going to London later. Leftovers for tea.

Have a good day all and hugs to those in need.

    Good morning peeps.
Started off beautifully bright but now it's clouding over.

Will be optimistic and assume I'll get my wash dry on the line :)

Dinner will be roast beef, yorkshire pud and runner beans from the garden:) It will be for 8 as far as I know at the moment.
Yesterday, along with DD1's family we had an unexpected extra guest. Another hollow-legged young man. I thought I'd baked loads of southern fried style chicken but it all vanished without trace in a trice!!!! DH, DD and I had beef rogan with lots of yummy spinach from the garden added. Made a very tasty difference to the curry:)
Will be off to church later. Wonder if it's going to rain on us :(
Happy Sunday m'dears. Hugs for all in need or who want them.
    Cheers, Silver x

    Morning my lovelies :)

Not been around much as been busy. Night out was great but shoes made my poor tootsies sore. Next time I go out it will be in my slippers :o
Glad the wedding went well JackieG, your reading is just beautiful, no wonder you had a wee cry ;)

Plans today are to take the kids swimmng and then hopefully potter about. Sun is out although it's breezy, hoping it stays a night day.
Not sure what's for tea, not in much of a mood for cooking at the moment :o

Silver - I am in awe at the numbers you always seem to cook for :)

Shalva - Have a hug...will DS be back home again soon?

esmf - why does thunder stop your OH going to a DIY store? Seems like a woolley excuse to me ;)

Hugs and spoons all round. Have a good day OS or not.

    Morning all!!

OH is just getting ready for work (by getting ready i mean he's rolling around the bed groaning) Bought pup a little alien soft toy in wilkinsons and he's obsessed, we had to hide it from him last night because of the squeaking and he spent about 3 hours looking for it before settling, then first thing this morning he's whining to get it back - he's now happy and running around the house with it.

I have a load on in the machine and bedding is out on the line. I have a few more loads to do and would quite like to do a bit of baking too.

Bought 2 packs of ham yesterday and OH ate 1 last night!! They are supposed to be for his sarnie!!

Dinner tonight is lemon chicken and potato bake with all the trimmings. I hope OH is finished early so we can eat at about 5. Lunch is a left over burrito that i half of yesterday.

    Have a lovely day all

esmf73 that's a good price for all that, hopefully you won't get stung by the builders. I read at work that an open plan kitchen with glass doors onto the garden is top of home buyers wish lists in 2011... some of the other things were a big greedy, like "master bedroom with wet room and walk in wardrobes"!! Apparently a double with ensuite isn't luxurious enough anymore
jackieg i thoroughly enjoyed you clogging up facebook with the photos :rotfl: looks like a great day and your sis looked gorgeous in her dress.
jackieo you sound like super gran!
glad you had a good night bitsy
hugs for shilva and everyone else who needs em.

Time for me to finish off the packing, eat a roast then get on the move! Wish I had a few more days here but have to get on with it :(
Mum got up this morning to find a sparrow hawk attacking one of the baby black birds, she scared it off but now it's got a one eye and is sitting in a cardboard box while all the birds are screaming. There are a few families of birds constantly popping out babies in the garden now.

    Morning all,

Jackie G your sister looked absolutly beautiful, hope the roof gets sorted soon, shame you cant get one of those changing room type programmes in.

Bramble little dog does that with a new toy too, drives us mad :rotfl:, also don't throw away your bits of food you don't want, a homeless shelter will always take them.

Lou how are you doing ? xx

We are off to a local tiny car boot sale at 10 there is only about 20 stalls, but its usually good stuff, mostly older folk, who seem to look after their stuff.

Need to hoover through when we get back, and dinner later is hot dogs in a bun, with wedges and sweetcorn.

Went to see dad yesterday, and he is planning his escape from hospital :D, asked me to keep an eye on the Dr and that we should make a run for it when he was not looking :rotfl:, thats with his complicated fracture :D he managed to drink a cup of tea and a glass of squash, which is great as he has not been drinking enough.

Jannyannie I still think the carer is in the wrong, why would you take an elderly persons money especially if they are confused, its just not right, are you still going to set up the joint account thing ??

Ok better get on,have good days all xx

    Morning All,

Back to normal now - work at 11am. I lost my mobile at some point on Friday, I am on the case, and it is still ringing so it will turn up somewhere, no doubt! I am sitting here with a towel wrapped round my hair resisting getting dressed, best kick myself up the backside!

Shalva, have a hug from me too, can't imagine how it would feel watching your boy go off in his uniform. xx

Molly hope that Black Dog is on his way out the door. xx

Lou honey, I hope you are OK today pm me here, I will be in touch when I am on my break. xx

Dazi, looking forward to seeing those pics. x

OS for today, I have dried a washing, and will stick a pot of soup on for lunch for OH and the boys.

Hugs spoons and hi fives all round.

    Jackie XXX

Thanks again for all your good wishes.

Just did a long post then it dissapeared hummph.:(
As I was saying, had a busy day y/day so didn't post. Had to go to DD1 and suss out the state of the walls after DH had removed all tiles. It's a right mess so will need re plastering. More expense for us as we own the house. Popped into Aldi for a few things. Spent £98.87:eek: suppose 2 cases of wine didn't help;)
Collected DGD at lunch time and she's still here. DD2 has flu and has lost her voice. DNephew & family came over so we all had lunch in the garden, I made chicken stirfry & salad, fruit and cheese for pud.

DGD was up at 5.50am today and I was cooking her egg on toast at 6.10. Roat beef for DH today, left over chicken salad for me.

Kitchen floor swept & washed. DW loaded, BM finished, beds made and veg prept for dinner.

JACKIE how awful about the kitchen, hope it gets sorted quickly. I could almost hear your sigh of relife when you discovered you didn't leave the tap on.

DAZI, hope you had fun at the wedding.

Off to do Peppa Pig puzzles, oh I know how to live life to the full
