eye make up questions

Hi all.
I'm very much a tomboy going through a girly phase. I'm mid 20s and have only just started becoming remotely interested in make up so many of my questions are going to be rather elementary!
I don't like the heavily made up look at all but I am liking the way a simple bit of eye make up can really add to my look. I'm blind as a mole without my glasses and have zero hand eye coordination to add to the fun of applying anything, but I'm slowly trying to get to grips with different techniques and products. I know that there are lots of make up and beauty aficiondos here so i'm hoping you can teach me a trick or two and answer some questions.
1. Curling eyelashes
I've noticed that this is getting marginally easier with practise, but I cant seem to get my eyelashes significantly more curled than their natural state. Is this likely to be due to my technique, my curlers (No7 ones bought during the £5 voucher offer recently)or do some peoples' lashes just not curl as well as others'?
2. Applying mascara
I'm really cack handed and applying mascara to my lower lashes, especially on my left eye (i'm right handed) is a particular struggle. Any hints on technique or ways to make this easier?
3. Eyeshadow Palettes
are these worth it, and if so, any recommendations for where to get good ones? I came a bit unstuck tonight as fancied wearing eyeshadow ( albeit fairly neutral) to compliment my look, but the only colours I had were unsuitable as they didn't go with my outfit.
is an eyeshadow palette in the range of colours your nnormally wear fashion wise a good investment, or am I better off building up a stock of individual colour palletes?
any other pearls of wisdom gratefully received
PD xx

ok...
eyelash curlers... I don't actually use them, but a good way to get a better curl is to do it at the base then half way along the lash, and make sure you hold each time for a good few seconds, maybe count to five, ur basically trying to make a bend in the lash.
Bottom lashes... try to wipe as much product off th brush as possible, maybe don't re-dip the brush before you do the bottom lashes, you can either try to brush them with the side of the wand, but I've often seen people hold the brush so it's pointing upwards and just skim over the bottom lashes to get a light coverage.
eye shadows.... you don't always have to match ur outfit to ur makeup, a neutral colour, beige, peach, light gold will go with any outfit, if u want all sorts of colours then buy a pallet, but I find that I often only use 2 or 3 colours out of a pallet. do u prefer matt shades or something with a shimmer? superdrug do good cheap makeup, so might be a good place to et some staple items, MAU, barry M, sleek.. all good stuff for lower prices.
I am a makeup addict... so feel free to ask what you like xx0 -
also with eyelash curlers i warm mine slightly with the hairdryer (be caredful, only want them a little warm - not hot!) and it curls the eyelashes a lot more than using them normally0

I have to agree on the pallettes I have so many and only use 1 or 2 colours out of them. Also agree with neutral shades like gold, beige etc. I've only recently started wearing eyeshadow every day and while I dont' use wild colours I feel my eyes look a bit nicer. A shimmery beige one is lovley to make eyes pop but not too bright. Brown eyeliner is also nice as it will frame your eyes.
Going forward I'm going to buy single pots of eyeshadow in the colours I regularly wear and forget about palettes as I've been wearing same eye make up for an age.
For tips on eyemake up etc. it's good to look at youtube e.g. google smokey eyes and you get fantastic tips for doing easy smokey eyes etc. Just practice at home on a rainy afternoon or something til you are confident to do it for going out!
Remember to use good eye make up remover to save panda eyes in the morning my fave is no 7 one which I get when it's the £5 off vouchers so it's only £2

Hiya!
With regards to palettes, I know what you mean about only using one or two colours but as you are just getting started it might be good to buy palettes of wearable colours just so you can try some looks out. You might be pleasantly surprised at what suits you!
Personally, I now have most of my everyday shades as singles, but I have a couple of brighter palettes in case I want a certain look. The 'beauty UK ones' at Superdrug are good and only cost about £3, I think they have a neutral set as well. Might be worth a look. 'Sleek' (also at superdrug, but only the bigger branches) are also good. They were originally designed for darker skin so they are really heavily pigmented and stand out really well, a bit more expensive though but not unaffordable.
My eyelashes are flicky anyway so I never bother curling them, but when it comes to putting mascara on the bottom lashes - one little trick if you don't need them too defined is to apply mascara to your upper lashes, then while it's still wet, tip your head right back and blink/ When your lower lashes touch your upper ones, a bit of mascara will go onto them, but tipping your head back means it won't go all over your eyelids as well lol!
You could also try gently rubbing a soft black/brown eyeliner over your lower lashes for a softer, more defined look.
You could try watching some of the tutorials on youtube for a bit more inspiration. Lauren Luke springs to mind, her videos are really friendly and she explains things well. A lot of the make up tutorial people will use brushes to apply rather than the sponge applicator you get with most make up, don't worry if you haven't got any! The simpler, everyday looks will work just as well with the sponge and using your fingers to blend. You can always invest in brushes later.
Have fun!
