I have an Asus PC which has been excellent but recently I have received messages that the memory is full.

I have two hard drives - C is 40gb and D is 180gb and my OS is Vista Home premium.

I clear my internet files on a weekly basis and anything of note goes on our 500gb back up drive, so can anyone tell me why the C memory is so full ?

What am I doing wrong ? It is so full without me putting a great deal of stuff on there. about 2gb of music and a few photos !!

Please can I have some advice on how to get memory back secondly how to spring clean my pc and get this mess tidied up !!

I wanted to check the disc for errors but it comes up saying it won't do it whilst the disc is running - help me !!

Thanks

If the PC is running well

Have you run disc clean up, more options, clean up restore points

You could store data on drive D and have just Windows and programmes on C

Do you mean Virtual Memory or space on the C: drive?

What exactly is stated on the message received?

If you mean anything important goes on your backup drive, that may fail one day.

use d as above, assuming it's empty, and use windirstat to find out where the space has gone

If you are trying to run, chkdsk /r then you should get the option to type Y to run it at next boot

Or did you right click the drive, click properties, tools, then check now?

I would think system restore is the one, especially if it has not been cleaned up

You could consider limiting the amount of hard drive it can use
