Replacement power supply for laptop

The cable for my laptop power supply is damaged (my fault, not careful enough with it!) so the laptop only gets power from it if the cord is held *just so*...rather annoying and not particularly practical.
Any advice for getting a replacement power supply? (things to look out for or avoid, hints on where to get a decent deal on one)
Is it best to simply take the model number off the existing one and try to find somewhere that sells the same one?
The laptop is an Acer Aspire 5315 and the model number shown on the power supply is SADP-65KB D
Thank you in anticipation!

people on here will tell you to avoid the cheap ones via ebay, however i've been told by a friend that his friend bought a laptop charger for over £100 and it lasted only 3months.
basically it all goes down to 2 things how much can you afford to pay out and how much do you actually want to spend on one.
pretty much these days all laptop chargers are made in CHINA, if they are made in other countries they use components from china.
also depends on how your going to use it.
is it just to charge the laptop up when its at home, is it going to be packed and twisted the cable up everyday to take to work and charge laptop up there.
considering prices for chargers start at £50 in comets / argos / dixons / pc world. and you can get a cheap one from ebay for £8 for you laptop not a universal one £15 which can be used with almost any laptop, if used properly should last at least 1 year.
I searched on ebay and this one comes with a 3 year warranty. but no clover head lead.

I bought a charger from ebay which said genuine HP
It came along and it had hp stickers etc. on it - but it made a strange buzzing noise
I found out that lower quality ones do this
However it works fine and has for more than 2 years
So I don't think it is genuine hp - not saying all of them are like this - just something to note0 -
I'm always a bit weary of electrical goods on ebay as I've seen plenty of examples of counterfeits that are dangerous - I once had to seize a warehouse full of plugs imported from china because they were likely to cause fires if plugged in.
I've found one on amazon that has good reviews and it's horrifically expensive so I think I'll go with that!
Thanks for the advice!Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!0 -
If you know anybody good at fiddling with electrics it should be fairly easy to repair, either by removing a section where the cable break is and rejoining or fitting a new plug end which are pennies.0

I've just had to replace one for my IBM/Lenovo Thinkpad.
Rather than pay Lenovo's silly price, I bought one via Amazon. The supplier was a company called PortableParts-UK.
It's been given a real hammering for the past few weeks and, so far, has proved perfect.
The may not all be so good, but I've been very pleased with this one.
Hope that's some help.0 -
Get genuine always !!! NEVER GET THE MULTI ADAPTERS ONE'S USED TO SELL THEM, RUBBISH !0

Mines off ebay been fine for a year now just have to make sure you get correct one - voltage etc. usually listed on the bottom of the laptop.0

It may work fine, but there is no way of knowing if its actually safe inside.
I had one that worked fine, till I took it to bits to look inside, and its never been used since, build quality inside was appalling, Im quite suprised it had not burned the house down.[greenhighlight]but it matters when the most senior politician in the land is happy to use language and examples that are simply not true.

The impact of this is to stigmatise people on benefits,
and we should be deeply worried about that[/redtitle](house of lords debate, talking about Cameron)0 -
errr....... rather than jump the gun, are you sure it's the charger that's at fault, or the charging jack in the lappy ?? more often than not it's the jack that's iffy rather than the charger....check properly before forking out any cash

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple
