mobile phone with wifi
I would like to buy a phone for my grandson who is starting university next month. Are there affordable phones with wifi possibilities. His parents will be living abroad and I thought it would be good to have a phone from which he could skype them. I see that Tesco has a points doubling deal this month so maybe this would be a good time to get it ..I don't necessarily want a contract phone. All advice welcome.

I think it would be best to ask him to be honest - the scenario you don't want is you getting him a phone he doesn't particularly like but feeling obliged to use it because it was a present.0

As per post #2, there are many handsets that can connect via wifi and a whole host of features and budget from under £70 to over £600.0

You or he might be better off buying a cheap skype phone from three if its just skype you want as they do skype for free on paygo without topping up.0

Thanks I don't think he'll mind about which phone it is as long as he doesn't have to pay for it he's not one of the "must have the latest model kids" Could you possibly specify make and model say of the ££70.00 ones? I looked in Tesco and could only see very expensive phones which mentioned wifi as a feature. Some are blue tooth enabled would that be the same thing. There are so many makes and models it's very hard for a non techie granny to find her way through it. The grandson is away for the Summer so can't ask him.0

IIRC the T Mobile Pulse has all the bells n whistles for £69.99 then as mentioned the Orange San fransisco £99.99 or less, I got the HTC Wildfire for £99.99 as I required a camera with some sort of flash , but that is just 3 of many choices.0
