in Water bills
As per Thames water this is estimated bill. But there is only 1 person staying in the house and 1 washing machine. Does that sound reasonable?
The debt collection agent has send me this bill. Not sure should I challenge this or just pay it.
Thanks

It rather depends what period the bill covers - it would be high for 1 week, but low for 1 year!!
Why is a debt collection agency involved?0 -
If it's estimated, why didn't you just read the meter and request a revised bill based on that? Now it's been sold on to a DCA it gets much more complicated. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

226 quid doesn't sound to far off what might be expected. Most domestic consumption is due to showering, flushing toilets and tap use, such as water used cleaning teeth, washing hands, cooking food, cleaning etc.
Washings machines, dish washers etc. are minor parts of domestic consumption. I would say pay the bill then have a look at how this estimated consumption compares with actual consumption and then take it from there. There's no sense crying over every mistake.
You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.0 -
I live on my own in a 3 bed house. Just paid my latest 6 monthly bill (metered) with Wessex - £107.
Usual water drinking machines, washer, dish washer, 2 loos (only use 1 at a time !) - never take a bath (only have a shower fitted !!).0 -
So, as already mentioned, why don't you make some effort and read the meter, if it's incorrect then supply a reading to TW and get the bill revised?
If that is what you've used, then the bill will have to be paid. It's a perfectly straightforward process to check the bill against your meter and work out what you owe.
Though if it's gone to a DCA you may well have now incurred further charges. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

But you said it was an estimated bill? You don't get estimated bills if you are on RV billing-it's a fixed amount. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

So what's the point you are trying to make? If the bill is based on RV, it has no relation to your actual usage or to the number of people in the property. It's based on the rental value of your property around 1989, which you can neither dispute nor appeal. The only error can be in the computation of the final amount derived from the RV, which can be easily checked.
If there were ten of you in the house, the bill would be exactly the same.No free lunch, and no free laptop0
