Old A&L sort code still valid to use?

I've been with A&L/San for about 3 years now, and last year (during the switch) I was getting money from Student loans company & SAAS by BACS monthly. Even though new sort codes were issued, the ole 72:50:** still worked fine. However, that payment session has ended and I've reapplied for SAAS and a student loan for this…

When I recently set up a direct debit for my barclaycard I had to use the old A&L sort code as their online form didn't recognise the Stantander one 09-01-35.

I was sweating for a couple of days in case the DD was rejected but all went through smoothly
