I asked my bank to remove my overdraft facility, but they haven't done it.

Yeah £100 or £200 overdraft would be a good idea. We all have moments where payments don't go through automatically and you end you spending that money.0

Hey pmduk, iKennett and Sharon87 - thanks for the advice. I got up yesterday morning and checked my account online, and yep, the facility has been removed. I have decided not to ask for a small overdraft, since I haven't ever been overdrawn before, and I want to try and be as good at budgeting and whatnot as I can possibly be, but I completely understand where you're coming from in relation to the keeping a small overdraft thing. Anyway, thanks again for the advice everyone, I really appreciate it.0

You could get a savings account with the same bank.
Put in some money, then even if you don't put any or much money in it every month, you'll have some money you can transfer into your account if you feel you might go overdrawn.
I have savings account and normal bank account and regularly check my account online. I normally transfer any excess money straight to my savings after working out the months expenses.
If I have unbudgetted expenses coming up or I think things maybe tight as I have overspent on a day out for instance and I may go into the red, it takes me about 10 secs to transfer from my saving account into my normal account online.0 -
