Gripe- TV licensing & digital changeover

Our digital changeover will be complete on Aug 17th and then I won't be able to pick up any channels. I don't want to buy a new set- don't watch that much any way. I have cancelled licence but they tell me that I am not entitled to 2 months refund because you have to have 3 months to refund. I can't be the only person that this has happened to. It's not a case of not wanting to watch- my set only picks up analogue and they have changed the system! Think of all that money they are grabbing, that is what makes me mad- I would be very happy to donate the outstanding amount to the current African appeal.
When you have a DD for a magazine and decide to cancel you usually get the outstanding sum reimbursed. Not TV licensing! Would the DD agreement cover this??
All useful suggestions gratefully received!!

Spend a whole tenner on a set top box (they're even free for some sectors of the public)?0

Bought a freeview box before and could only pick up one extra channel as I don't have an outside aeriel and reception locally needs it. Gave the box away! Have signed up for broadband so will no longer need to traipse to library- as now. can live without TV! but why should TV licensing have my money????Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!

"They" are changing the system because the world moves on and shouldn't be held back by people resisting change.
Analogue is being switched off so that the whole country can enjoy digital terrestrial, not just those who are lucky enough to live in a DT area.
You don't need a new set and you don't need Sky - a cheap Freeview box will do the trick.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -

After DSO the digital signal will be much stronger. I bet that you would have been able to receive more digital channels with that box if you had just waited for the change over .What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?0 -

Sorry but what is your point? Unfortunately digital TV is not a treat, it is a must if you are to have a TV.0 -

Ah yes, I remember analog TV giving us a 100-odd channels and high-graphic interactive services...Squirrel!If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.
Now 20% cooler0 -

I completely agree. The digital changeover forced on us in the South West has cost me hundreds of £££
The old analogue TV had to go - no scart socket for a freeview box. Even with the brand new TV all the BBC channels were unwatchable - signal was so weak the picture kept breaking up. In the end we had to upgrade our aerial as well which cost another couple of hundred £££.
All for a couple of hours viewing a week - we hardly use the thing anyway!
You should just see the pile of useless TV sets at the council tip. Freecycle is full of them and charity shops won't take them. Many of course worked perfectly well prior to the change over.
Nice little earner for someone this digital rip off.0 -

Freeview box with an RF out connection?
No remote control either.
Yes it really was that old. Great picture though and never needed repair - other than when a visiting toddler tipped a glass of orange squash into its innards. Even then it was only a £20 repair to replace a capacitor or two.
Can't see this fancy new one lasting anywhere as long - assuming I don't lose the remote control unit which is entirely possible.0
