Hi I need a little help. Ive been charged 13p several times for "long messaged".

I rang vodafone and they said id sent a long sms to several people at once and been charged. The only tx I sent to several people was saying my new number and that was 50 characters at most.

For one im on unlimited tx so how can I be charged for messages?

And even if it is long surley that would just come of your allowance.

Anyone else had this problem. Ive never heard of any other company doing this.how can they charge if you tx message is long it shocking. Any advice please.

Some phones convert long messages to MMS format which are chargable. What phone do you have? You might want to check your settings to see if you can disable the feature.

I have a galaxy s2. The thing is I havent sent any long sms. Ive only had the mobile aweek so still have all my tx I've sent.and another thing is I get 100 free mms so surley it would come from that.

It all sounds to me its a way of voda getting more money of people.

The companies are there to make money, so don't begrudge that :o
As others have mentioned the handset may have 'though't you were sending a mms (have not heard of mms allowance on voda) , sometimes very long texts get converted to mms, or if an attachment is used, for instance if you sent the message from notepad.

I understand vodafone need to make money but surley charging for long sms is abit sly.

I got a add on my contract as they messed up. When I took it out they said I got 1gb data but later found I had only 500mb so they gave me 500mb extra and a 100 free mms for the hassel.
I have looked in the settings at mms.creation mode and restricted is selected and I assume this means I am unable to create a mms and send without changing this setting.

Like I said I have all my message on my mob I have sent and recieved as only had it a week and not a big txer and there are no sent mms or.long tx messages.

It seems like a.system balls up but I cant see how and I definatly cant see or remember sending any mms or long messages.

How about sending a short message to alot of people? Would that be classed as a long message. Surley someone.else has had this issue.

It could be a 'feature' of the handset, I know when I used to use my palm pda to send text, if I used the £ sign in the message, it would mess up the whole message on the recipient's handset, did you create the message with text like "Hi this is YYY and my new number is XXXXX XXXXXX" or did you send the updated phone contact straight from the address book? Does seem odd :o

Did you send your number as a v Card? Because that will be MMS format.

Have not used voda for a while, but I would imagine that the long messages are sent as 2 messages ( well it does on O2) , I have noticed that sometimes folk reply to my messages and it comethrough as a mms, I have had jokes sent through as mms, but if you convert it back to text it equates to 6 or 7 texts, so I can see why sometimes mms would be used for larger messages.

In the address book depends on the contact details stored, example, if I send a text to one of my contacts but there is say mobile, landline, email details, then my phone will 'ask' which one I wish to use and send in the required format, but then email would come out of your data allowance. If I get a mms and forward it via email, then it simply comes out of my data allowance.:o

Found the reason. I sent a message to 10 people and some how a email addy got into the send to. Now whether this converted all the sms to mms im not sure or if I pressed.the attatch button on accident but I now know its my fault.

So thats where the charges came from but back to the long sms part. would voda charge for say a 3 page sms as a long tx even if its still in sms format?
