Can I get o2 to give me a free phone?

How do I get o2 to give me a free phone? I've been bt cellnet/o2 customer for 12 years... but I've changed my number once in that time, about 5 years ago. I was on pay & go until about 3 yrs ago when I changed to the sim only simplicity thingamy - I wanna keep this as I don't want to be tied into a contract. Any ideas? My mum recently got a new nokia (not a smarthphone) from them for £20. She's been on the £10 a month simplicity plan for a number of years and was a low-spending pay as you go customer for some years before that - in total we've been o2 customers for the same length of time but I've definitely spent more than her, I pay £20 a month on my simplicity plan for sim only. I know o2 have previously done a thing where they added up all the credit you'd bought for your phone and if you'd been a long-term customer they gave you money towards a new phone. After 12 years of using the same network, will they give me a phone?! :D

O my eyes - they are hurting - whats with the big font?

Ask O2 to see what they want to offer!

Or port out the number to another network (on pay and go) and back to O2 with an offer which includes a phone.

as per post#2 , O2 are not going to close down just because you took your custom elsewhere, the phone is nver free, it's just wrapped up with smoke and mirror tariffs.

Will O2 give you a 'free' phone?...

Well yes if you sign up to a lengthy contract (depending on the phone/tarrif) & pass the credit check, but as said before, the phone is never free. ( same as all those free laptops,iPads ect, the's always a catch somewhere)

I think OP is probably wondering if O2 do some sort of phone fund that some networks do, giving PAYG customers credit towards a handset.

    Don't know the answer though.

I think it depends on if they class the customer as a blue, silver or gold customer which varies on average monthly spend :o

Are you on about the £150 allowance they give for being a simplicty customer instead of contract customer? You usually get it when you do a request to upgrade.

They do have that scheme,it's in two parts, one part's handset discount & the other call time. When I worked for O2,quite often the call time would outweigh the handset discount many times. In some cases the call time would be over £100.This would be credited to your bill if you went onto contract, the handset discount would only be a few quid, certainly not enough to get a new phone. And they aren't interchangable.(ie-you cant use the call time one to buy a new phone & visa versa)
